Looking for tips to make my first render

Hi! I'm an artist that has been using DAZ3D figures in my art for 15 years now. I have never rendered a 3D figure, however. What I been doing is taking a screenshot of the figure for digital painting in Photoshop. Example here: https://www.deviantart.com/sirenz/art/Dr-Moreau-subjects-27061708
I been looking at the galleries and have been impressed with the renders I have seen. I tried to do it myself and it looks really awful.
Can anyone recommend me YouTube videos of people rendering their figures in DAZ3D or any helpful tips? I'm having trouble finding videos on this subject myself.
Thanks!

Iray rendering loves light, lots of light. There are several ways to improve renders, some ideas are presented in the links above and I seem to recall having a few suggestions also in my tutorial thread in the freebies section.
It's easier to get help if you post examples. "Awful" can mean an awful lot of things!
Keep it simple. Start off with a very simple scene and one figure and then bulid on that as your skills increase. There's a scene bundled with DAZ Studio called "Secret Garden Shaded Haven" which would be a good place to start.
Cheers,
Alex.
