struggling with the transfer utility due to odd joint rigging g8 - g3

I've followed SickleYield's tutorial on how to make a g3 asset fit a g8 figure. with shoes that's especially annoying due to the differences in the joint structure. In her tutorial, you're supposed to select g8, then shift seect g3 shoe, then asssets>rigging>copy rigging (figure space). Alas, it doesnt do anything at all.
So I'm stuck. Looking at the bone layout, I notice that the toes are simply not aligned as they ought to be (g3 has the toes wrong).
Tried transfer utitlity, and unsurprisingly, it is giving me an incorrect result (toes of the boot aren't follwing the intended alignment).
How do I copy the g8 bone rigging to this g3 boot?

The fastest and dirtiest solution: Parameters tab>Right/Left Toes>Zero the bend of the toes>hide the toes.
A longer solution(not a perfect one by a long shot):
The boots lack the lower set of toe bones, see image one.
First, delete out the second set of toe bones. Use the Joint Editor Tool, select the secondary bone, right click, select Delete bone. See image 2
Next, bend the individual toes, not the overall bone, bend the toes untill they are warping the boot.i used -27 on each of the toes bend, except small toe 1 which required a -28. The big toe also required a side-side of -6
Select the boots toe bones and adjust until they are back to their starting position. i used 27 on each of the toes bend, except small toe 1 which required a 28. The big toe also required a side-side of 6
the toes should now be inside the boot. Image 3
For any poses you'll need to either lock the toes in advance and adjust accordingly or adjust after posing. Image 4.
ain't perfect, but it gets the job done.
