I'm using 3delight and usually use distant lights, pointlights and spotlights mainly. Is there a setting for the shadows from them to be stronger without the light being brighter?

Cheers.
yes, with the light selected you should find the dials in the parameters tab
Here's a trick for what it's worth...note that this has to be used with care, it can cause unexpected behavior
If you use a very strong environmental light you may find it useful. Here, the plane and sphere are mid grey, as you can see, with a distant light at 100% strength and the UE2 at 100% strength with a pure white color, the shadows are washed out, and the mid grey diffuse color is practically white.
I select the distant light, go to parameters/light/shadows and turn limits off for shadow strength, the result with 200% strength:
And the same can be done with the UE2. Here's 100% shadow strength and 200% occlusion strength:

Thanks. Which dial gives stronger/darker shadow?

I shall experiment, thanks for the info.
