Render Settings for Transparent Background Objects to Prevent Floating Appearance

When I render with no background with shadows, my objects hover, giving them a floating appearance when I add a background in Photoshop postprocessing.  In DAZ 4.12, what render settings do I use (I'm assuming it has to do with Environment Settings in Render tab) to have the shadows project so that there is no "floating,"--so the objects look like they are truly on the ground?  Again, I am rendering with no/transparent background.  Any help would be sooooooooo greatly appreciated!

In the attached image, the dinosaurs appear as if they were floating.  Please note that the white background was added as a layer in postprocessing Photoshop.

I expect that in the Environment section of the Render Settings panel you have Draw Ground "On" and Ground Position Mode se tot "Auto"? (This is the default I believe).

Try setting Ground Position Mode to "Manual" instead - this might be enough in itself. If not, then try raising the ground using the Ground Origin Y slider untill the feet look sufficiently embedded in the render.

There is quite a good explanation in another forum thread - I'll try and find it and post a link here.

  • MelanieL--thank you so much--I set Ground Position Mode to "Manual" and adjusted the Ground Origin Y slider, and this worked perfectly!  Your help is greatly appreciated!!  Wonderful!!

Glad it worked - I tried to find that thread but failed. I think it is something to do with the bounding box of the figure you are rendering extending below the actual feet when the figure is in a particuar pose. "Auto" follows the lowest point of the bounding box, "Manual" fixes it in place so you can get it right.

  • but the dinos just wanna fly free?

but I use that a lot because I do a lot of compositing stuff...

depending on the situation .. just turn off the ground plane and see what that accomplishes
