Can't load any items into a scene

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

It's been the second day that I've been using DAZ studio, and yesterday everything worked fine.

I'm using Genesis 2 Female and standard wardrobe items for the Bree model.

Today I can't load any new items into the scenes I saved yesterday. I tried double-clicking and dragging and dropping items. In the former case, a small screen pops up showing the item loading, but the scene doesn't change. When I drag and drop, a menu with a number of load options pops up, I choose either Default Load or Fit to the model. Again, nothing happens. Also tried 'Merge Item into the Scene' option, with zero result.

I tried creating a new scene, managed to load a couple of items to it, but then it stopped working.

Very frustrating. Perhaps there is some setting that I know nothing about, but I definitely didn't change anything on purpose.

Thank you so much for your help.

One thing to look out for is that new items are loaded into XYZ co-ordinates of 0,0,0. Depending on the layout of your scene, this could bury your new items somewhere not visible. Check the scene tab to see if the items have actually loaded, click on the item if present, and then check the parameters tab to see where they have been put.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

Also Double Check that you are trying to load a Item and not just a Material (texture) for that item. A material can only be applied to a item once it is loaded and selected they do not load the item with that texture applied. It is load the Item then change the texture using a material file after the real item is loaded.

I've got a vague feeling that it has something to do with some items not indexed properly in the content database. As a result it doesn't know where/ how to load the item. Because some items do seem to load and some don't.

Do I need to reset the database or something?

You were right. I was trying to load materials instead of an item. It works now.

    Many thanks.
