Adding lights but they don't appear during render?

Hi - This is my first ever image and it's got me scratching me head a little bit as to why it isn't doing what I want it to :(
I've tried to show as much as possible in the attached screenshot, in the viewport you can see that the spotlight on the subject isn't being rendered into the scene but on the textured view it is definitely on and pointed directly at her.
I just wanted to cast a bit of light onto her face so that it's not just a sillhouette - I expected to add the light and then adjust the intensity down to something that I liked. Can anybody help?
Thank you

In Render Settings:
What is the Envirnment Mode setting, in the Environment Group? It needs to include Scene to show lights (or emissive surfaces).
What are your Tone Mapping settings? The default s for a fairly bright day outside, so local lights are not likely to show much influence.
If you're Iray rendering, I wouldn't mess with the Intensity. If you didn't change any of the default settings, I would simply increase the Lumens(found by selecting the spotlight in the scene tab, and then clicking on the Light tab in the pane below it. For that particular scene, if you don't need the environment light much, you can opt to set it to render Scene Only or lower the Environment Intensity. You can also adjust the spread angle(60 by default) of the light to make it wider or narrower depending on how much of your character you want it to illuminate, but you will have to adjust the lumens accordingly because, for example, a 90 deg. spread angle is going to disperse the light more over a wider area, so its not going to appear as strongly at the same Lumens compared to a 40 deg. spread angle.
Hi - The Environement mode is set to Scene, not sure how to set it to include lights?
In Tone Mapping I did already try turning the exposure setting right down (to the right) so that I could just get the additional light but didn't work :(
Scene lighting should let the light from your spot show up, so that's not the issue.
One thing that possible is that your spot is on the other side of that prop, and it's being blocked. Try selecting your spotlight as a "camera" and see if you can still see your character. When you put a spotlight into the scene, it's set to 1500 thingies and doesn't give much light. You might want to crank up the luminosity by a factor of about 100 to start, and adjust from there.
