All Learning materials are not reflected in my setup
I'm lost. For the last few weeks I have tried to do the tutorials. I have watched many videos but regardless of the learning material chosen no instructions are reflected by my Daz UI. "Click here and you will see this..." Errr nope. "Choose that." It's not there. I realize that this was my fault originally. When I first did the basic tutorials I found them to be really unhelpful. With each stage I experimented further to cement what I was learning into an understood process. The way it works now with a single instance of 'project start' to 'finished rendered image' requires me to have a photographic memory. After buying several Genesis 8 Female model packages and playing around with the UI, I attempt the first tutorial once more and when promted to select a model through "Actors and Wardrobe'/'Actors'/'Smart Content'/Files/Figures/creatures/People/Female/Real World" all I get is "Fiery Genesis". Genesis 3 and Genisis 8 are no longer shown. On the right panel are Minushka, Antonella, and Marnie under Content Library that I purchased but that isn't helping me to learn. What do I need to do to get back to the default, out of the box, UI?

The interactive tutorials are to guide you through the general steps using specific content, they are not designed to support using different files. The idea, I think, is to learn the process so you can then apply it to your own choice of content.
Thank you for that, Richard but do you or anyone else know why the selection outlined in my post - "Actors and Wardrobe/Actors/Smart Content/Files/Figures..." etc would not show the Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 Female options but the "Fiery Genesis" model for females, only. What conditions make these disappear? Someone must know. All advanced software have modes and setups that change or limit options. So, I want to use this software and currently, I cannot. What mode, setting, user selection, or key press will allow me to see and select the content I actually have in "Smart Content"? Thank you.
Did you download and install the free content that the tutorials need?
A screen shot may help.
I downloaded all the free content required and actually ran the tutorials. I didn't get to the last ones because the information required to find anything hadn't become fixed in my memory. So I played around with the female model I had. I went through the face and body morphing sliders and realized that I wanted more controls. After downloading and installing several packages I went back as instructed by the "Getting Started" tutorial and not only were the new assets not where I expected to find them but the Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 Females were missing. And, pressing buttons is how I got her
My screen runs at 3840 x 2160 so a full screenshot would be too large. The two shots of the top left and top right corners show the only real info on the screen.
maybe it's the tutorial itself that it's limiting the content in Smart Content? I don't think that would be possible on Content Library.
Also there's a check box in Smart Content labeled as Filter By Context; it means that - only when checked - if you select a G8 model you'll not see clothes, materials atc made only for G3 and others.
So if you're searching for a G8 model but you have selected a primitive or wathever you will not see it. This should not happen in Content Library, where the content is shown just as a File Explorer
p.s. by selecting a primitive or whatever I mean selecting it into the viewport or ibn Scene tab, of course
It's very hard t follow what you are doing. Have you tried reloading the UI layout - Window>Workspace>Select layout?
After using Windows > Workspace > Select Layout, I managed to load the default UI. As for brvsn's points, the problem exists without anything loaded. I fire up the program and what should be there is not. I have attached a .png image showing exactly what I see after loading Daz 3D and opening the smart content tree down to "females". As you can see, the free Geneses 3 and Geneses 8 choices that came with the program are not there. Not only that but the "Filter By Context" checkbox which was down in the bottom left hand corner when I first did the tutorial is not there either. Nothing is loaded and nothing is selected.
well at his point maybe the best things to do is to reset and reinstall daz studio from scratch with Install Manager.. it would probably be quick that understand what went wrong..
Reinstall the Genesis # Starter Essentials rather than the applicaiton, I think. With nothing loaded and selected you should have a lot more options than that - and I think both of those are from tutorial/sceen builder add-ons rather than the Starter Essentials.
Sorry for the delay. Okay, here the problem with the suggestions so far. I looked at the same tree selection from "Actors and Wardrobe/... down to .../people" and then checked out "Male" below it - something I hadn't even looked at. All I saw were "Dragon Slayer" and "Surfer Guy" but no "Essential Geneses Males". So far, the essential females and males haven't shown up yet and I still haven't found out if I suffer from a bug or a newbie error such as being in the wrong screen setup or program mode. Since I could be missing a lot more and wouldn't know it my only option is to uninstall everything and re-install from scratch. This is rather taxing.
So, that's a "No" for a complete re-install. Nothing changed or improved. It is as if somewhere I have a checkbox selected or an option is open or closed that shouldn't be. While I appreciate the sugestions and input from my fellow users, I require tech spport. I was an audio engineer for 40 years and I just spent $130,000 on a new audio studio. I would like to launch a Graphics studio and I'm very willing to spend money. I'm suprised that Daz Studios haven't focused more on getting new users through the steep learning curves and offering tech support to those such as myself. It's been well over a week. We shall see what happens.
I cannot believe that no one can help me. If this is true does someone know where I can go for help?
WOW! Colour me stunned. I have finally discovered where my problem exists although I am so far unsure of the correct settings I need. In the main menu under "Window" > "Workspace" > "Select Layout", and in a drop-down menu above the graphic representation, I had unwittingly chosen "Full Service (Beta)". For the curious, have a look (making sure you take note of your current selected layout FIRST). I've selected "Hollywood Blvd" although I have yet to test whether this is the one used by the tutorials but it does show all of the actors I own. Wouldn't it be great if there was a "Reset", "Defaut" or "tutorial" layout choice that also reverted any careless button clicking to return us newbies to the point we were after installation? The reason why I am commenting before I have fully tested it out was because I have never come across this kind of forum layout before. I'm not blaming the users here because they are all different levels of newbie trying to solve their own problems.
I understood this which is why I went to the "Technical Help (Nuts n Bolts)" section of the forum to make my case. Clearly, Newbies couldn't help me and I required technical support. What was stunning was that I had accurately described the "Full Service (Beta)" layout along with screenshots and my posts could be broken down to say, "Hey Guys, there is something wrong with my layout." Had my post in "Technical Help (Nuts n Bolts) not been closed I'm sure that someone there would have taken the next logical step and asked, "Well, what layout are you in?" Instead, my issue was confined to the "New Users" section where a sizable chunk of the readers didn't know the difference between layouts and hot sauce and weren't interested in my problems because they had problems of their own. This is not a pro-profit strategy. A better idea is to create a technical support area where experienced users can earn a $10 discount in the marketplace
