Poser products in DAZ?

I came back here (been about 14 years) to scratch my need for 3D...
I have hundreds of RDA stuff in my account...I've not used it since I lost my only copy of Poser 6 when my PC died and my digital copy could not be recovered a few years back.  I am now planning to use DAZ Studio exclusively and would like to know:

When a product here says only Poser in the compatiblity list [in the product listing], does that mean it absolutely will NOT work in Daz (even with tweaking)?  I mean, I don't see why a PROP would not be able to be used in both.  I do realize that this means the items were made FOR USE IN POSER...but is there a possiblity of compatibility with the new DAZ studio?  I have no idea if you can import .obj files or what into the new DAZ, that is why I need to know from those of you who are familiar with the system.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and any help will be welcomed!

No it only means that you find them in the menue "Poser Formats" in the Content Library.

It depends on the products. Most items will work as long as you adjust materials, but there are limitations:

    • Materials use a different system. Most settings beside basic diffuse, transparency, bump and reflection will be ignored as DS can't use them, procedurals or complex nodes won't work.
    • Poser weightmapped figures made for P9+, or figures using capsule rigging from P8 won't work at all (well, they will load with tons of error messages and deform horribly when you try to pose them).
    • Python scripts won't work at all
    • Poser dynamic hair won't work at all
    • Poser dynamic clothes will be static props. You can often get them to work with dForce though
    • Morphs which use PMD injection won't work at all. That means that sets like the RDNA Ultra Morphs or the morphs from a set like Terradome 2 won't work, for example.
    • Poser lights are rather useless in DS as most of their properties will be ignored. You can usually get something out of them with lots of fiddling.

    Thank you both very much!

Thanks for explaining it to me so clearly, now I feel more confident in getting started.  =)

Can anyone point me to a help file that might help me learn how to get older [pre 2014] poser files from another website into DS?  I am more than willing to read whatever I need to so I can learn how to do this.  I realize that most of the files won't be usable, but I'll take what I can get at this point.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, any help would be much appreciated.
