Daz Installer fails repeatedly. Cannot install.

Hi. I've been trying to install the "Free" Daz-Studio Pro (animation) product for over 3 hours. I chose the "Free" version first, merely to see what it offers. But, it looks like the installer is more focused on having me purchase other packages than simply installing what I asked for. It's very confusing, and it fails to install anything related to a basic program which I can use. I have read as much info as I can find on the website, but nothing I've seen addresses my issues. I came here for some guidance.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit OS with all latest updates, and no issues with it, or other software, at all.

Problems:

-- It is requiring me to register for an Account (even though I'm logged in now with user name and password). I see no reason to create another account which is used for purchasing other products at least until I'm ready to purchase.

-- The installer says it can't find a certain path to install the only file available on its list, yet I chose all default options when I began the installer. It should have any/all paths that it requires already installed.

Question:

Will this "Free" program ever work or do anything at all UNLESS I give credit card info while signing up for another "Account?"

I've uninstalled everything "Daz" from my Windows' "Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs" then, rebooted system, re-downloaded the Installer and tried it again. It is a nightmare. I cannot get the installer to do something it is supposed to do by default.

I will certainly appreciate some help from you more experienced users.

The program installer can be installed "manually". You do not need a new account.

The DIM requires the same password and handle as your store login as it is trying to access your account so it can comb it for available downloads [new and updates] and then download them, and then install them .... as per your instructions to it.

If DIM didn't download a product, AFAIK it doesn't know that you have it on your computer. If you manually install either the program or content "manually", it also will not know that said stuff has been installed.

edit to add pics. The texture atlas downloads are for D/S3 but there is also an installation guide there.

Okay. Thank you for replying. I suppose I have been doing it correctly, since I have downloaded the installer to my HDD and running it "manually" from there.

However, it has never shown me anything 'green'/completed (as in your images). It never gets that far. Plus, the installer interface keeps changing; for 1/2 hour, it shows check marks in the little boxes, then they disappear for another 45 minutes, etc. Sometimes I have seen a meter indicating 17% complete (for the download on a single one), but it has never surpassed that value. Also, the installer interface tells me that "3" programs have been installed, yet I don't know which ones. There are about 10 or so programs left still to download, let alone install, and my modem show no activity and neither does my HDD activity light. Everything just stops. I've spent hours trying to get something to happen the way it happens on every other program I have ever installed. I dread turning off my antivirus software because its main purpose is to protect my system from downloading nearly anything from the Internet. I don't know what else to do. I've started over completely at least twice. The installer interface (under the column heading "Status" never updates its percentages to show how much has been downloaded. it's static with only ".... %" downloaded. No values at all.

Thanks again for your kind reply.

The DIM or DAZ Studio Install Manager is not asking for you to create a New Account. It needs the Information as in your user Name and Email to connect to Your account on DAZ Studio so it can download the files from your Products Library, including the Free files for the Program.

The DIM needs configured by the user the First time it is run as to which files it should Add to the Downloads list in the Filters section.
DAZ Studio 4.5+ should be Checked on
32 Bit should be Checked on for 32bit Files
64 Bit should be Checked on for 64bit files
Plugins should be Checked on for the Included plugins
Software should be Checked on for the main Program files

DIM also needs a steady none interrupted connection to do its job well. Dial up connections are often to slow in data transfers to supply a steady uninterrupted connection.

Here is a view of my current Filter settings, I am set to also get the Public Build Beta versions of DAZ Studio. You may not wish that option on.

Oh good, the expert has appeared!

anyhow ... the rest of my reply here is then:
Those green links are what everybody sees in their Product Library.
From the Forum page here, up top click on "My Account".
Then from "My Dashboard" click on the words "Product Library".
My illustrations are from that, not DIM.

In DIM [haven't used it for awhile] check your settings. You could set it to download first, and that's it, that's all. Then from another tab in DIM "ready to be installed", select the program first if not already installed, after that's installed, then select one or a few at a time to be installed. When that's done, then close DIM and open D/S and check the "Content Library". Things should be showing up in there.

It's a lot to take in, learning how any of these 3D programs work. But they do work.
btw - the free version IS the Pro edition. The key to unlock the plugins is in your account under My Serial Numbers.

As Patience55 has pointed out you have control of DIM. If you do one at a Time installs the DAZ Studio 4.6 file should be the very first file you install or the other files do not have the proper target to install too. If you allow the DIM to do it for you once they all are Ready to install the DIM will do them in the proper order for you. It is simple to use once it is understood.

The free version of D|S is all there is — you don't need to buy anything to get started. You do need to enter a registration code from your DAZ account page, otherwise the Pro features expire after 30 days, but I think the Installation Manager handles this automatically if you let it install the program.

And are you sure the "other packages" aren't the other free content that comes with the program installer? The Installation Manager isn't telling you you have to buy them, it's telling you they're available for download.
