Resource Error- Question

I'm trying to get to the bottom of why some of my products don't work for me... the 1st is a "Iray13 shades of Pink" product  which i have noticed triggers a Resource Error upon installation.

The error discription is  "A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established"

i've have noticed this error on a number of occasions but disregarded it as it never seemed to effect what i was trying to acheive.

i think the WP guru mentions it as a side note in one of his youtube videos and he goes on to show us how to get rid of it... but as it is hidden away in one of his many lengthy videos its gonna be had to track down.

Can anyone point me in the right direction... Thank you.

This error message is not related to specific content. PostgreSQL CMS is the database system which is used to store the metadata used in the Smart Content tab. If DS can't connect to it that usually means the CMS hasn't started, and the Smart Content tab will be empty. But that won't prevent content from working if you load them from the content library tab.

With regards to "iray 13 shades of pink" the product page on the Daz website refers me to the product documents for instructions but the product doesn't come with any documents (both in smart content and the content library) and clicking on the product brings up "a page not found" window.

And as this products use is by no means intuative i was wanding if the missing instructions are due to the reported error?

I don't own this product but from the store page I don't see anything that would suggest it is different from any other shader.  To use a shader you must have both the object and one of its surfaces selected.  Using the Surface Select tool will select both for you.

    Hi there!

For the Valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established we have a thread going with ways to correct it!
The readme for the 13 shades of pink product is located in ReadMe's/Iray13ShadesofPinkforDAZStudio and is a shader set. This means to get it to work properly you will need to select the hair in the scene tab and then go into the Surfaces tab and select the material zones there before you apply the shader. Ali and Bea have included PDF tutorial on how to apply shaders in the ReadMe's folder as well!

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply...and thank you for the link.

I think if the product came with a read me file i would have had this sorted... unfortunately as stated there is no such file and i wonder if the CMS connection error was the reason?

But in the meantime i will follow your instructions and report how i get on... again thank you.

Definitely making progress with this method ... is there a way to select all surfaces as i'm having to 'ctrl click' over and over as the surface select tool only seems to select a few strands of hair at a time?

  • Thank you all for your help...i was able to follow your advise and learn how best to acheive what i set out to do as well as learning a couple of different approaches...

For me i selected the hair in the scene then went to the surfaces tab and selected editor... there all surfaces are selectable (the hair i was practising on has 22 surfaces!) and then it was just a case of double clicking on whichever shade i require in the content tab.

    Again thank you all...

(on to the next product i'm struggling with)

  • As a follow up i can now use another shader product i was struggling with thanks to these simple instructions.

This one did come with its own instructions but they are needlessly convoluted!
