Getting light to shine through objects?

Hey all!
When rendering indoor scenes I can't seem to get consistent light. I can hide the walls, but that limits camera angles and doesn't look consistent when I turn the shot around and change the hidden walls.
Is there any way to allow light to pass through an object as if it wasn't there? Allowing me to throw some distance lights up, or even just use the regular dome light?
Thanks in advance!

Iray or 3Delight?
In iray, you can use "ghost lights".
...and also in 3Delight, but that's probably not the point here;)
I leave the IRay part to an actual IRay user, in 3DL simply turn off shadows for the walls.
https://www.daz3d.com/iray-ghost-light-kit and https://www.daz3d.com/iray-ghost-light-kit-2. Must for indoor scenes. Easy to use.
To allow light to pass through an object as if it wasn't there you use an Iray Section Plane. A Google search will get you a lot of helpful links about it.
