Hi all I just recently aquired Luxrender and bought the Luxus Plugin and read what there was about it that I could find.
It states that the plugin should appear in the render settings tab. I can't seem to find it and I can't seem to get Luxrender to recognise Daz.
Do I need to uninstall and reinstall it or am I just missing something somewhere? I also have the 3Delight standalone standing by in my download files because the onboard one in 4.6 is giving me alot of grief . All skins are rendering black along with many hairs and eyes . I've been scanning the forums for answers to look for cures some tips have had effect while most do not. I also know that my pc has the juice to handle this 16 gig ram 3 gig possessor terragig memory. Lighting has a large impact I know and my eye is improving but what dumbfounds me is that all the black figures are Daz store bought V4 5 6 mostly and only a few hairs like Raidient Jaguar which you can shut off occulsion and raytracing work. Puzzled because I thought coming from the store their metedata ready. Sorry to ramble but kind of pitching nuts right now. Thank you for any help you can provide. I will try to get an example on here for you as soon as I can. Again thank you for your time.

Have you installed "Default Lights and Shaders for DAZ Studio"?
Yes I have that installed. A thought has struck me . A friend of my turned me on to the 4.6 he see in the free section and said I should try it. But works strictly with 3.0 .Completely different animal so he has no understanding of even metadata .Love the guy but he's no help. Anyway my rambling point is on his advise downloaded 4.6 to a stick and manually put it in then the same for all the essentials. I didn't get the DIM till a couple weeks later. Would I lose all the content if I uninstalled and did it the right way through the download manager like the online tut ? maybe the render engine isn't working cause I installed the wrong way.
I don't have that but most plugins require a serial key to be recorded. DIM might install that, if not, would be on your serial key page in your account.
You should check under Help - Installed plugins. In the pop-up list scroll down and find the plugin. If it has been installed correctly it should be listed, but will show an error if the serial hasn't been entered yet. Type in the serial and the option should show up in the Render drop-down (although you may need to restart DAZ Stusio for it to take effect - don't know).
Luxus appears to have no serial numbers at all and still cannot locate the bridge anywhere . Will try to show some examples this weekend and maybe an answer will appear. Would like to thank everyone for their time .
Wrong way round; you tell D|S where to find LuxRender. In the next button down, Path To LuxRender, click on it and select Browse, then point that to the folder you installed LuxRender into. Exactly where this is depends on which version of LuxRender you installed.
I'd recommend switching on Use LuxRender GIU, it gives you a lot more control over how the render runs (but it does take a bit of getting used to).
Thank you SpottedKitty I try that and let you know . Thank you for the help.
Sorry but no luck locating any pathway in the render settings tab advanced of Luxus plugin . In the smart content lots of luxus lights and a prop logo but nothing that indicates a path to follow . I'm at a lose but thank you for trying. I'll maybe try uninstalling luxus and reinstalling maybe it just didn't take the first time.
The Lux Render Program does not Come with Luxus. Luxus is just a Frontend for DAZ Studio to use the Lux Render engine. You must go get the Free Lux Render program yourself and install it. Then set up Luxus in DAZ Studio to use the Render Engine once you have installed it on your PC.
The Black out in some of your renders is the Age of Armor SSS shader needing the settings adjusted if you have the SSS Shader installed properly. As Stated before it comes in the Default Lights and Shaders for DAZ Studio Package of Free content.
Thank you Jaderail for your answer and yes I do have the 64 bit version of Luxrender already on the machine . I did however unload and reload Luxus and will see if I can find it this time. I am still learning this could you tell me which direction I go with the SSS Shader up or down? Also I was wondering if I need to match settings in render with the skin settings of custom figures to allow them to appear for some have varying pixel rates and the such ?
Okay, I'm thinking this, First as asked before if you open Help>About Installed Plugins does Luxus even list? If no we have a problem.
If Yes then we can move forward.
If Yes are you still using the Default DAZ Studio layout that opens after install? If no again we may have a problem.
If Yes I can say this...
Many of the POWER menus do not show nor can be reached from the default DS layout. To fix that issue you do Window>Workspace>Select Layout. I use City Limits as it is the FULL package and you have easy access to all tools.
If you still do not have Luxus in the Render Settings Tab after changing the Layout and it does list as active and green in the About Plugins area, I'm at a loss as to why it fails.
Thank you Jaderail for your answer/querry's. The answer for the most part is no Luxus does not list but I will try City Limits first to be sure.
Secondly I will show you three renders . All Daz store products some with their own built in lighting and a couple I added simply a spot and a distant on top. As a conventional artist it make take me anywhere from a week to a month to complete a project givin the time constraints of my day job so waiting a mere half hour for a render is nothing to me . Although 2 of these were under 10 minutes. The longest is the one with the mech which just to see what would happen I maxed out the settings. And played solitare on the ajoining screen. You will see all my render problems focus on either hair, skin and the middle part of the mech in the last one . Oh yes and a large percentage of clothing items that seem to act like barriers to skin planes in a lot of them. As always thank you for your time one and all.
The forth is the only practice render that worked with basic settings but only for that beautiful dragon.
To Jaderail I checked the settings in City Limits just now and no Luxus . How bad is my problem ? And thanks again it is nice to know people like you are out there. I dearly love the endless possiblitys this program offers and nothing would make me happier than to start a gallery of my own here. I truely think I can contribute but I greatly depend on the help and aid of others which is what community is all about.
My appreciation to all of you.
I do not think you are fully following me... First I need to know if the Plugin is even installed that is shown here... If it shows in this list any place and is Green on the Plug then we are ready to move ahead.
If it is not listed here we need the Plugin installed properly before we can move ahead.
Yep I do get it and sorry but in that list no Luxus pluggin appears unless it has an altered name for it . I am very quick with instruction believe me, so what's my next move ? Please may I ask how to properly install this plugin ? I've had Daz for almost four months and not even the tutorial lessons render right. I'm not discouraged just want to get past this hump and understand it. I will do anything you suggest to resolve this and I really do greatly appreciate your help. Also is there supposed to be a serial number for Luxus cause it doesn't list if that is so.
On a personal note I've seen comparisons and quite frankly I'd just like to fix my 3Delight . Just so know.
How did you install luxus? DIM? Manually?
If it is installed correctly it will show up as an installed plugin with the name Luxus (there doesn't seem to be a serial number with this plugin, as far as I can tell). If it is not showing up in the list it wasn't installed correctly.
Okay, I believe that if we wish to get to the bottom of the problem we need to rewind here and start from the beginning. Please bear with me.
You have indicated that you have installed the 64-bit version of Luxrender. There are many versions available for download corresponding to the platform (operating system) being used. Are you running Windows? Are you certain that you downloaded and installed the correct version of Luxrender for 64-bit Windows? If yes, then next:
Where did you install Luxrender - in other words, what was your installation path? In 64-bit Windows most applications will install by default into one of two folders on your boot drive: either Program Files or Program Files x86. The former is for native 64-bit applications and is where Luxrender should have gone unless you deliberately specified otherwise. The latter is for 32-bit applications. So an example path might be C:\Program Files\LuxRender\luxrender.exe. Please post your installation path for us - you'll be needing this information. You can test your Luxrender install by simply clicking on the executable file. You probably will want to exit the application immediately, since trying to do anything with Luxrender without the benefit of an intermediary plugin GUI like Luxus is not for the faint-of-heart. Once satisfied that it is installed correctly, the next step:
Luxus. Did you dowload the correct version for your operating system and DAZ Studio? If you are using Windows that should be the 64-bit version. (I don't have Luxus, so I'm assuming that several options are available from your product library - you do have the 64-bit version of DAZ Studio installed, right?). Assuming you downloaded the correct one, did you manually download the installation files (green download button), or did you use DIM (DAZ Install Manager)?
If the correct Luxus plugin was downloaded manually, where did you install it? In other words, into what folder did you install it? If you used DIM then the install manager should have located and installed Luxus in the correct folder.
Since the plugin is not showing up in your "Installed Plugins", and assuming that everything I've already mentioned checks out, then navigate to your DAZ Studio folder and locate the "plugins" subfolder. Within that, there should be either a Luxus folder containing the plugin, or the plugin should be listed right there with a bunch of other plugins (mostly *.dll files). You should be looking for a Luxus.dll or a Luxus.dylib file amongst the list. If neither is present anywhere in the plugins folder, then Luxus has not been properly installed and we'll need to address that. Hopefully if there was an error in the process we will have already identified that.
So, to summarize, can you tell us:
1. Have you installed Luxrender for 64-bit Windows and is it present in the Program Files folder?
2. Have you tried starting Luxrender manually by itself and confirmed that it is working correctly?
3. What is your installation path for Luxrender?
4. Did you download the Luxus plugin manually and install it, or did you use DIM?
5. Did you download the corect versions of DAZ Studio and Luxus (i.e. for 64-bit Windows)>
6. If you manually downloaded Luxus, what folder did you install it in?
7. Are the correct Luxus plugin files located in the DAZ Studio plugins folder?
If you can be patience and supply the answers to the above, I am certain we can solve the issue and get things working for you. Once we get the plugin properly installed and recognized by DAZ Studio, we then simply need to enter the path to Luxrender and you should be good to go!
Luxrender is in Program Files/Luxrender
both open and closed CL 64 bit versions
I have started it up and it works.
i used the DIM to install Luxus
What I found was that the Luxus dll was in Documents/Daz3D/Studio/Library/plugins
Where it should have gone was OS(C)/Users/my name/My Documents/Daz3D/Studio/Library/plugins correct ?
I have used DIM to remove and replace but to the same effect
So can I copy paste or drag and drop
Oh and I'm 55 all I have left in life is art and patience are I have left lol
OK - this should get you there -
1) Un-install luxus with DIM
2) Click on the gear icon (top left corner) in DIM and select the applications tab
3) Make sure that the 64-bit DAZ Studio 4.5+ application is actually listing the folder that DAZ Studio is in - if not, browse to the right location with the button with the three dots; if you do not have a location defined, click on the '+' button (bottom left) and add it.
4) Click 'accept'
5) Install luxus
Hello and thank you namffuak for your advise which I followed to the letter. Upon conclusion of this procedure everything you mentioned appeared in its proper place except any sign of it in the render engine tab or in the file tab. I am at a lose for this so now I will start a new topic about seeing if I can somehow repair 3Delight itself which is acting very strange indeed. The following pics will show the render settings (a note scroll to right to see ) and I do thank you for time.
Sorry they didn't show pixel rate too high will try to solve.
Here is some possible reasons for your issue. The Luxus in your account is Only for the current Full release version of DAZ Studio. If you are not using DAZ Studio Version 4.6.2.120 the Plugin (Luxus) is not going to work. All plugin in your Account are always for just the most current version of the full release.
If you are using the most current version of DAZ Studio and the Plugin is for that version there is still one thing that May be the cause for it not listing. That is the use of the Default load interface in DAZ Studio. The default install interface is for beginners only, none of the advanced menus load or show in that setting. In Windows>Select Styles> Pick one of the Advanced Styles and see if you then get Luxus listed.
If all this has been done, the newest Full Daz Studio, The Luxus plugin for that version and advanced Menus used the only other cause has to be the location of DAZ Studio. If you did a custom install of DAZ Studio to a none standard location it is possible that Luxus was not built to work if not in the default location.
Problem solved. It appears the issue was none Daz related in any way. What I discovered was a very slowly dying hard drive which took me the better part of a week to fix since I took an image of it used what I could and you know the drill. I would very much like to thank Jaderail and namffuak for coming to the rescue on a sinking ship and so sorry to put you through that . Again my thanks.
Sorry to hear about the drive but glad you have the issue solved. When all else fails check the Hardware. Good move on your part.
