How to use this smoke png

I recently got this pose/prop pack: https://www.daz3d.com/z-smokers-club-props-poses-and-expressions-for-genesis-3-and-8

It says that it comes with smoke png's but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to actually use these smoke textures to get them to show up in my renders.

You may be able to apply them to a plane, or you may use them as layers in your image editor to add smoke after the render itself is done.

If you apply the ,png to a plane you'll need an alpha map to cut out the rest of the plane other than the smoke... quite difficult because the edges are very diffuse.

I use the smoke pngs as Richard suggests, in postwork. They will need to be resized and they look best if made more subtle, by making them more transparent. About 70% transparent works for me.

    Here's an example-

There should be smoke props which, when you click on them to load, should load with the .png already added.

The smoke pngs are for postwork. They don't load with any props.

    From the product page.

'As a bonus, you get a Smoke Rings prop and Smoke pngs to complete the look!'

The 4 pngs aren't designed for the smoke rings. "Smoke pngs to complete the look!" = postwork.

Now I see. Put them on plane and in the diffuse channel add the .png and in the cut out channel add the .png and go to the image editor and choose Grey Scale From Alpha, should work. I don't have the set so can't try.

or in GIMP select by colour the transmapped bit and fill it with black and save as a jpg for cutout opacity

Much easier to just use the pngs as a layer in your 2D prog. after you render the scene. That's what they're made for.

I can't even work out how to load the smoke rings. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place... wouldn't be the first time.
