Creating Product necessary for smart content?

brvsnbrvsn Posts: 213

hi guys.. I have a few freebies downloaded from DA, renderosity or CGBytes and I also bought some characters form Renderosity; I would like to categorize them so that I don't have to search in Content Library.. I know how to add categories but I wasn't able to understand if I also need to create a custom products for those items.. For example if I have a character and I need to find it in smart content, I would not be able to if I can only count on categories.. am I right?

Maybe for props, materials, hairs is not really necessary..

sorry if I'm asking a question you already replied tons of times: I read threads and watched a few videos but I din't find any examples for characters

For Smart Contenbt you need to both categorise the file and set its compatibility

In addition to category and compatibility, I think you would want to set the type, so it shows up under Figures in Smart Content. You can set the type and compatibility by using the Content DB Editor accessible from the content library pane. You only have to set that once for your character. For example, if it is a character for Genesis 8 Female, then you set it compatible with Genesis 8 Female. Then later when you select Genesis 8 Female in the scene pane, and check the Filter by Context box, your character will show up in the Files tab of Smart Content. You don't have to create a Product for your character unless you also want to see it in the Products tab of Smart Content.

K thanks, I think I got it, I still have to find the patience to start adding categories, but better soon than later, I read threads were people had something like 100 pages of items not categorised and that is no cool at all! :D

That is what I was aiming for, but if a character has only injection morphs settings (but also materials, skin settings) it's not really useful unless I want to remember that I HAVE that character.. I guess..
