Old user - returning

Hi to all

My name is Peter and I've had Daz Studio sitiing on  my computer(s) since 2004. 

I'm an 'erratic & intermittent' user,  some times not touching it for years. I've upgraded Daz Studio a number of times, and I've various Genesis, Genesis 2, and now 8 with many figures.

Unfortunately my content library(s) are a mess, and now I struggle to find all the bits for my Genesis 8 purchases. 

Now with more time on my hands, I'd like to wipe the slate clean and remove the old content with the hope that all G8 stuff will become easier to access. How do I do this?

So my question is; How can I clear out all my old content (archiving it somewhere) and how can I acieve a Daz Studio that is only using the latest distribution and my G8 content?

Hi Peter, welcome back friend.  Your not alone, over the years I've disappeared quite a few times, for long periods as well.  Actually, I wondered the same myself, as to how to restart with content I use frequently.  I'm sure there are other methods, but with Covid lockdown I had a lot to time on my hands, Rofl !!!! 

My method worked a charm for me, very time consuming though, but I was able to clean out every unused product I purchased over the years, beginning with V4, purchased content from various stores, free content which I had tons of, I never used etc..... 

What I did was, in DIM I uninstalled all content.  I create a new My DAZ 3D Library, on a seperate drive H. 

I had one drive dedicated to all purchased zipped content, I manually download all content. 

I manually installed content I use frequently to new MyLibrary Drive H, G8 products, resources, props, lights, etc....  Specifically what I did was, in content folder I used details> date motified, I began to reinstall products manually  to new MYLibrary directory drive.  Redirect DS to new Library drive.  Previous Libary still exist on another drive J.  Once I was done.  Wow !!  Rofl !!!  I was blown away, how much content I had, Lol !!!!  

I can't remember the exact numbers, but I had something like 280 GB of content, now 72.5 GB new directory,  Now, i can fly around DS library without losing my mind, looking for content, Lol !!!

Hi AJ2112, Thanks for your suggestions its good to know that someone else has had the same problems.

I'll give it a try later as I'm just exhauseted with the heat, In theUK we're at 23c inside and 28c outside. Not to worry though it wont last.

It'll probably snow next week :-)

Welcome friend, hope all works out well for you, if you have any questions, ask away.  Know exactly what you share, I live in the hottest state in the US, 23c here is winter months, I kid you not, Lol !!! right now at 38c within a month 44c, I certainly know about heat exhaustion, stay safe, wish you well during UK heat.
