"Jittering" clothing fit-to's during animations?

Fairly new to animations, and am noticing that some clothing items don't "fit" themselves to a figure consistently from one frame of animation to the next. At 30 frames-pre-second, the real-time effect is a piece of clothing which appears to rapidly 'jitter' against the figure. I'm guessing there is a setting I can adjust to fix this. I only seem to see this problem occasionally, with certain figures, certain clothing items, and against certain parts of the figure. I can't see a pattern to it. Any help from someone who has seen this?

Do the problem items have Smoothign Modifiers applied - if they do there will be a Mesh Smoothing group in the Parameetrs pane below the Mesh Resolution group.
Yes -- there is a Mesh Smoothing group. Are you saying I need to turn "Enable Smoothing' off? If so -- bummer -- because I've had to adjust the number of 'Collision Iterations' and 'Smoothing Iterations' to get a good fit. I also have 'Interactive Update' turned on -- and I'm not certain what it really does. Smoothing Type is "Base Shape Matching."
I certainly think it's likely to be the smoothing recalculating that is the issue.
same problem here, you can adjust simulation parameter in the surface panel, but that may cost a lot of time
