Wet Body Iray Genesis 8 - Red/Black surfaces on further distance

Hello everybody,

I'm pretty new to DAZ and 3D rendering in general, and I'm still learning the ropes. I've gotten most of the basics down I think, but for the past 2 days I've been running into an issue I can't seem to fix on my own.

I recently bought the Wet Body Iray package for Genesis 8 figures (https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-wet-body-iray) and am trying to use the provided shells of the package to add water drops to my figure's body. The shells themselves work fine, and when my viewport remains rather close to the figure they come out just as expected, but as soon as I zoom out beyond a certain point my figure's entire body is covered in these red-black-ish surfaces. I've tried to figure out on my own what could be the cause of this issue and no matter what I try it seems to be related to how far away from the figure the viewport is. The problem is reproducible, i.e. if I move my camera closer the issue disappears, and once I zoom out again it reappears. As I am still trying to learn I don't really have the expertise to narrow down a solution any further and I'm not really familiar with any of the surface parameters yet.

During my investigation I stumbled upon this topic here (https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/174121/wet-face-fail) that suggests it might be related to a missing displacement map, but as far as I can tell the shell does not have any map images attached.

Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this issue or what I can try to mitigate it? I'm happy to provide more screenshots or information if necessary.

Any help or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

That's probably down to limitations in the precision of Iray's calculations - displacement helps by separating the surfaces more, you can do the same with the offset on the Geometry Shell (assuming it has a Push Modifier applied). If the figure has been moved from the default load position it masy also help to move it back to the centre.

Wow, this seems to indeed have fixed the issue - what a simple solution to a problem that had me stumped for hours. At least I learned a lot.

Thank you for your help and the lightning fast reply!

In case any other newbie is stumbling upon this thread in the future, I just cranked up the "Offset Distance" slider on each of the shells a little bit. Depening on how far away your camera is a little tweak might be enough, or you just have to set it higher if you zoom out further. Starting at a certain value that is different for each of the shells the issue starts disappearing entirely, no matter how far you zoom out.
