How to limit an aniblock to part of a figure

I've only just bought animate2. So far I've tried to create 2 aniblocks. My first seemed to work, the second didn't (I've made several attempts) so I'm obviously missing something.

My first attempt was a genesis 2 female, already sitting at a table & holding a glass - lift glass to mouth (only shoulder & children change), then tilt back as if taking drink (which additionally involves neck & children changing), and then reverse it all back to start position. I only wanted to include the changing parts of the figure in the aniblock. What I think I did (it was my first play with the tool) was: go to scene tab, select shoulder + children & neck + children, go to animate2, create aniblock from keyframes, then name & save it.

I can apply this to any genesis 2 female and it works - any figure already sitting at a table in the correct starting position (regardless of their initial Yrot) looks fine. A figure standing only moves shoulder+ and neck+ - it looks odd but it shows I've only included the selected elements of the figure.

So far so good.

Except I can't seem to be able to reproduce this. I made a second attempt with a Neo (David 5 based) figure - fork in hand to mouth & back, but it appears I'm now saving the whole figure. So the Yrot & seated position are both burnt in. I can't remember what I did different between first and second attempts.

But the generic question is: what is the correct procedure to only include a partial set of elements from the figure?

  • An update - I've managed to get a very simple test Neo head-only animation into an aniblock. I've got to go the day job now -  when I get back to this if I manage to figure out what I've been doing differently I'll post another update.
