MY Biggest Problem - Tabs Not There

I have been trying to follow the various tutorials. I usually don't get very far into them because they will use a tab [left or right side] that isn't there. What do I do when I am trying to duplicate what a tutorial is teaching, but the available tabs do not match with what the tutorial has? I try about everything possible, but I cannot usually make my edit field look like what the tutorial is showing. I am using version 4.12.1.117. Do the tutorials use a newer/older version? Right now I am using a tutorial on changing skin color. Only 5 minute video, so should be simple. He shows, in the lower right side of the scene a tab called "skin." No matter what I do, I cannot get any information to show in the area, except "tips and nodes." He has something that has 3 tabs along the horizontal - presets, editor, and what looks like shader baker [?] Along the vertical, there are about 7 tabs, one of which is surfaces. Can someone tell me what this control box is, and how to get it to display?

What DAZ does, that I can see so far, is amazing, but if I can't learn how to use it, then it is worthless to me. BTW, I can generally master the most complex programs in less than an hour, and I have been playing with DAZ for 4 days now, and all I have accomplished is putting a figure on screen - genesis 8 male, put a casual outfit on him, and some hair. Not much to show for 4 days! Yes, I can rotate the figure, scale it, and move it around, but ultimately, I need to create animation, and I'm a hundred miles from that right now.

That sounds like the Surfaces pane, it has never been called Skin (though Genesis 3 and 8 do have a Skin set of surfaces that can be selected in the list on the left of the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane). If someone uses a pane you don't have, where they have it, check Window>Panes(Tabs)

  • Richard, you just solved several of my problems. Yes, it was the surfaces pane, and now I see how to get to panes that haven't popped up as the tutorials would indicate.

    THANK YOU!
