Gianni 6, what am I doing wrong?

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here---I'm getting these brutal seams on his default texture---and the UV set is his. So...what did I break? This program hates me... but I've got it in my head that I have a few G2Male characters I need to do...

The default Gianni texture? Does it render like that too? Did you apply the textures manually or via a preset (or is that just the default character preset)?
It's what loads with him. This is how he is straight out of the pack. I haven't changed a thing. No settings...here he is rendered. I looked at his textures and they all say Gianni on them. I redownloaded the zip file, pulled out every single file that came in the zip, reloaded him again. Updated DAZ Studio to 4.6.2.120. Tried it all again.
I don't know what else to do. I've checked repeatedly that he's got the Gianni UV set, so I'm clueless...
He takes Michael 6 textures just fine.
DAZ Studio does really weird things---it doesn't like my computer much. I was testing a pack for Jess and it refused to load the lights, then a body rem file refused to work, but it worked for everyone else. I also have a disappearing morph problem that has been ongoing and kept me from creating characters for Genesis. And I REALLY want to work with Genesis2.
Check the log file, at the end, immediately after loading Gianni - Help>Troubleshooting>View Log file.
OK, but I don't have a clue what it means...

Ran tdlmake on image C:/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library/Runtime/Textures/DAZ/Characters/Genesis2/Gianni6/Gianni6LimbsB.jpg
Was there any more Gianni-related stuff before that? It appears to be in the middle of loading morphs there, then it goes on to shader issues (which were a known issue and, I got the impression, non-critical - I think they were fixed in the latest Public Beta anyway).
No, that's all I have of him. I only bought the base model. I do have Michael 6 pro, Freak6...there might be residual files from testing the teens and I have most of the G2 female models. But this is all have of Gianni. And as far as what loaded before, he's the only thing that did load, I closed Studio down, restarted and loaded Gianni. There were some files on the folder it opened to, but he's the only thing that I loaded in the window. The log file can get huge and complicated so I started fresh. And this has been happening since I bought Gianni. I did every conceivable troubleshooting...updating, clean install. Everything I could think of before I posted here. Now, Gianni takes M6 textures just fine, no seams, no problems. It's this one texture set that doesn't seem to "fit," and none of the UV sets looks right with this texture. It's seams on the neck, back, arms and/or legs. M6 set shows neck and face seams.
I thought maybe it grabbed another texture from a naming problem or something, Poser does that occasionally. But that's not the issue, either. It's loading the proper textures, and these were the ones that came with Gianni.
looks like log is saying something about displacement?
freak 6 isn't out yet.
Oh. It's been a while...perhaps it was Freak5. Having this morph problem, I've spent more time in Poser than I have in Studio. It's not a displacement issue. And I doubt tdlmake.exe is causing it, although that would explain my opt images issue. If it's not something I'm doing, guess I should hit the bug guys...
Question Are you using the Gianni Actor icon to load the figure and textures? Or are you Dialing in the Figure and then applying the texture?
EDIT: I just checked my Log file after a Gianni load. It appears that your TDLMake just stopped after the first texture. My log shows each texture map as run through TDLMake and the Figure loads properly.
well, here's my gianni out of the box. a lil seam by his neck, but nothing like you're showing.
there's preset to turn off his displacement.
what is tdlmake?
i'm always last with the goodies
tdlmake is the applet DS runs to prepare the textures 9turn them into .tdl files) for the 3Delight renderer.
No, it's not the displacement. That was tried and discarded some time ago. I'm down to tossing the entire thing and starting from scratch---clean install of Studio and all my content. And seeing as how I've been a customer and PA here for well over a decade, that's going to be a LOT of content... It's gonna take me weeks to clean this mess up---and I don't even know if it's going to fix the problem. I can't believe someone else hasn't run into this...
It seems like it would have to be something in the way the UV is being set. Those are off set maps. When I change the UV set, it gets better in spots. He looks best with the base male UV set. Michael 6 is a wash---but Base Male and Michael 5 don't look quite so bad.
You might want to try a sort of interim step first. Clean install of Studio, yes. Clean install of Genesis and Genesis 2 starter essentials. Clean installs of the Genesis and Genesis 2 main characters -- the Michaels, the Victorias, the Stephanies, Aiko, Hiro, David, Freak, Gianni, Gia, Olympia, whatever of those sorts of things you have. Still time-consuming, but not as bad as reinstalling EVERYTHING. Since your problems are specific to certain things, it really sounds like there's something wrong with the Studio install itself (my own guess would be issues with corrupted UV maps and 3Delight weirdness, but I'm no sort of expert on those). If you can correct the base install and the main characters, the rest of your issues may fix themselves.
If that doesn't help, then you can go on to reinstalling everything, but trying this first may help. And if it doesn't, you at least have those things already reinstalled.
Well, that's certainly one option. I'm just afraid to leave the problem behind. With clean content and Studio install, that's about the only way to guarantee that the problem isn't left lurking in a file or folder somewhere, making the entire fix an exercise in futility. I filed a tech help with the bug guys. Maybe they know of something I'm missing.
*sob* my gianni broke
This is the problem where DS loses track of the compiled shader - I think Richard had a fix; load a primitive sphere, apply the AoA subsurface base shader and delete the sphere if I remember correctly.
The other fix is to delete the folder C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\shaders\brickyard which holds the compiled shaders, to enforce a recompile.
Only delete the "brickyard" folder. The beta version of DS now stores the /shaders/brickyard folders in DS's temp folder.
To original posters problem, it may just be a bad UV set file, don't go crazy nuking all your content. The UV sets are located in /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 2/Male/UV Sets/... since I don't have Gianni I can't be more specific about th file location but you should have no finding it and deleting it. Re-download Gianni's file in case you did get a bad download, with a good zip utility (never trust the one included with your OS) extract the hopefully good UV file to the location of the old..
thanks. not sure which did the trick, but he's rendering again :) :)
