DesignDoll to Daz?

DesignDoll is a software that can easy to create a stylized human model.

Is it possible to rig a model that exported from DesignDoll in Daz, then give it poses, clothes and hair?

Note: I have basic skills of Blender.

Thanks.

  • It's possible and will definitely require a good amount of work. Have you tried looking into Aiko 8?

She's on sale and eliminates having to import and rig anything. You could just use Daz Studio from start to end.

Daz Studio comes with Genesis, Genesis 2 [male and female], Genesis 3 [male and female] and Genesis 8 [male and female]. These are all quality figures that are already rigged and can be morphed into a great variety of figures. For a few dollars here and there additional morphs can be purchased in the store to add to their 'gene pool'.

With Blender one can make even more morphs for any of these figures too.

n.b. Membership really pays for itself, big price differences!

I think I was a bit vague in my previous post. I suggested Aiko 8 because I Googled the software they mentioned and it seemed to be focused on using Anime style characters that can then be posed to serve as references for illustrators or digital artists. Thus Aiko 8 came to mind.

Going from the images on the DesignDoll website, Sakura 8 may also be a good fit, style-wise, if that's the goal. She has a lot of morph adjustment options specifically made to work with her style and a male counterpart (though he's actually a morph for Sakura/Genesis 8 Female rather than built for Genesis 8 Male).

There are also the previous versions of Aiko, and for males, there are Kenji and the older Hiro figures. It would be a good starting point to find a ready-made Genesis-based stylized character in the store and then use morphs or Blender to further customize them. They'd have the native Daz Studio support for all the poses, hair, and outfits in the store (and the freebies offered on other sites). Doing that sounds a lot simpler to me than trying to import an unrigged figure and rig it from scratch, then having to convert Genesis-compatible clothes and hair to fit it, and have to find a workaround for any pose presets that may not work with your custom rigging (though perhaps that just sounds daunting to me since I've never rigged a figure in DS before). It really depends on what you want and how much work you're willing to do to get the desired results.

It was a good suggestion. I mentioned of all the base figures as depending upon which one, one wants to use, there are a few stylized or cartoon type figures available. The older ones tend to get into better sale categories now and then, sometimes even free for a week.

This is the one that I like {if anybody is interested} Hitomi.

  • Thank you for your kind replies!

I got it that any characters must be based on the genesis base mesh. This fact is answering me some questions.

Sakura 8 and Sasuke look good to me.
