Can animate2 and puppeteer work together?

I have a simple animate scene of genesis 8 male walking toward the camera [from back to front] and stopping stage center front. Now I want to add gestures to the figure as he delivers a "speech."

I cannot figure out how to add the gestures [using puppeteer?] to the stationary figure as the animate2 ends.

Can someone clue me in to accomplish this?
