long content loading times in content library

It's taking several minutes for content images to load in the content library. Any ideas?

All content or does it vary by type? How many content directories do you have added to DS?
It happens to all content. I have lots of additional runtimes in Poser formats but not in Daz Studio Formats
This sometimes happens to me as well. I've always assumed it was because my hard disk had gone to sleep. I have six Daz content directories and five Poser runtimes.
Cheers,
Alex.
Textures will be checked against both - I suspect if you load an untextured piece in DAZ Studio Format it will load quite quickly; if so, that suggests the number of directories may be the issue (remember that you can use the Content Directory Manager to set up different sets and to quickly swap between them, so you may be able to reduce the number of active directories without merging them if you want to keep them separate).
If I understand correctly, it's not that the items take a long time to load, but that it takes a long time for the icons to appear when you go to a folder in content library? Is this in "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats", or only in "Products" and "Categories"?
Once the picture that you click on to load genesis or any other object is clicked on the objects load very quickly. It's taking very long for the pictures that show up below the content library window to show up. There's nothing to click on to load an object for quite awhile. I'm not sure what those pictures are called.
Sorry, I missed your last post. Exactly, it takes long for the pictures, icons that's what they are called, to show up. I don't use products or categories because I have never been able to keep CMS stable for any length of time so that is turned off. I know where everything is so I don't miss smart content. This is a recent problem and I have been using Daz without CMS for quite awhile and the pictures loaded fine.
I may have figured it out. I removed my 50 or so poser runtimes from Poser formats in the content directory manager and the icons are loading much more quickly. I like having those runtimes loaded, I use Daz for storyboards and speed is of the essence, but the trade off seems to be the icons taking forever to load
The cause of that is each folder is read one after the other and the Icons get cached before they display. The more folders the longer the read time and the larger the OpenGL image cache build will be. Then you got the swap time and all that with every change.
While I don't know what is causing it, I have hundreds of runtimes and I never have to wait minutes for content thumbnails to display, so possibly you may not have to remove those 50 runtimes if anybody can figure out what's going on with your issue. Unless I'm just getting lucky somehow and haven't encountered it yet.
However there is an issue where sometimes the thumbnails don't display until you ?move?click? your mouse in the portion of the window where they are supposed to be displayed. Potentially that could make you think it is taking minutes to load if it happens to take minutes before something you do moves the cursor across/into that space. This happens intermittently (so never trust than an empty category is really empty until you verify it with the mouse.)
Speed of display comes from this, speed of media read (the HD) Speed of CPU for caching the Data, Speed of RAM for converting date in Temp folder or RAM Cache so the quality of the PC and all its components are involved just to show the icons. We as users often never notice those little things until they get noticeable. I do believe up to date Graphic drivers help in this. I did notice better performance on my PC after my last driver up date. That's pretty much all I know to try other than limiting the Number of folders read and the amount of files read at once.
As Pointed out before, I do use the Swap in and Swap out method of content folders for this and other reasons. I can not think of the last time I had all my content folders mapped to DAZ Studio at the same time. Its just not needed all that often in my style of work.
EDIT: And Yes the OpenGL update for Icons in the Display Pane not refreshing, those times nothing shows until you click in it, is known. It still happens on my very up to date power PC as well.
