DAZ Central: What does it actually do?

So Can I ask why is it that we need to go into Daz Studio and re-install/update items when we have this new fanged Daz Manager / Daz Central interface that seems to be very redundant and a waste of time?

Why do we not just download and install directly from Daz Studio itself? I mean this option is there.

  • Daz Central is a replacement for Daz Install Manager. I don't think that you can even download DIM from the web site anymore. This was my preferred method since you could check all products to install instead of having to install them one at a time as in Daz Studio and Daz Central (unless I'm missing something). DIM also allowed you to hide items that you don't want to download such as the Poser / Carrara files that I no longer use. I'm not sure if Daz Studio downloads/installs just the Daz Studio version of products that are available for both Daz Studio and Poser.

One nice thing about Daz Central is that it has links to resources available on the web sites for new users.

No, it isn't.  It's a simplified installer for new users.  DIM is not being replaced.

Yes, you can.  If you had it before it's in your Product library:  https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_14811

If you never had it it's here:  https://www.daz3d.com/install-manager-info

Connect (Daz Studio Smart Content pane) only installs the DS version if there are both DS and Poser versions.  I don't know if DazCentral does the same -- since it's supposed to make things simpler for new users, I would think it just does the DS version.

One nice thing about Daz Central is that it has links to resources available on the web sites for new users.

Connect can't install plugins, or generation 4 figures due to the morph system they use. Also, there are quite a few people who use Daz content without DS.
So providing other install solutions makes sense. DIM is one, but it's rather complex due to all the options it has, so they created DazCentral which is a simplified version aimed at new users or users with a simple setup.

Because some of us really, really don't like what is already there.

... And it must be said, don't like Daz Central either so far.

DIM is great, it does what it says on the tin. Downloading and Installing is kept seperate from Studio's purpose - scene creation and rendering.

    I'm not buying that coolaid.

Locking this, since there is already an active thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/407131/beta-for-dazcentral-your-new-content-manager#latest and it isn't rally a Daz Studio topic anyway.
