Exporting bought Daz character.

Hello,

I've been trying for three days to export a Daz character, a dwarf for Genesis by GhostofMacbeth I bought, into icClone 7 via Character Creator 3 pipeline. Thus far nothing, nada, totally unable to even load it into Daz studio, just getting the documentation appearing.  I'm totally frustrated, can anyone help please? I've attached screengrab to illustrate the closest I've got to loading the character.

Best regards

It's a character for Genesis. Do you have the Genesis (1) starter essentials installed?

  • Yes, I believe I do Leana.

Based on the screenshot, you have "materials" selected. Those need the base character loaded first. Try "All files," (right above materials) and see if there's an actor or figure, or something like that there. I'm not sure what it's called exactly.

  • Thank you Ati, I'll try that, I'll try anything I'm at my wits end...

  • Hello All, Sorry back again... I really have no cllue to what I'm doing. I followed a hint and managed to get to this point, then nothing. It says double-click, I double-click, nothing happens. I'm simply trying to export my bought product to iClone 7 and I think I'm about to be exported to a mental hospital... There appears to be no clear instruction anywhere (I can find...) to enable me to export my product... Please can anybody help a slowly disintegrating human being?

    Best regards.

Please put the Viewport into Smooth Shaded mode befor taking a screen shot of a nude figure.

  • Sorry, I have no idea how to do that...

I don't own this product myself, but reading the store page and the ReadMe it looks like there is no "Actor" to load, just shaping morphs for Genesis and a set of materials.

So: it looks like you need to load a Genesis base figure, then apply the Dwarf materials (as seen in your screenshot) and apply whichever of the dwarf head/body/nose/jaw/brow/ear shapes from the Shaping tab or (I assume) the Parameters tab. There's supposed to be a full morph for an aged dwarf and a couple of partials too - they should all show under the Shaping tab.

Click the sphere icon to the left of the camera picker button in the top-right corner of the Viewport, or ctrl(Win)/cmd(Mac) 7 - ctrl/cmd plus a number is a quick way to switch preview modes.

  • Hello Richard Haseltine, the offending PNG seem to have disappeared anyway, taken down I imagine... sorry for my ignorance...

  • Hello MelaniL Thank you for your answer. I now believe you are right in your assumption that it's not a single character but a recipe for a series of characters,. Unfortunately it has been many, many years since I last used Daz as an animation product, and everything has changed (even if I could remember it!). So, I have tried to place cloth and objects etc on a Genesis 8 model, but I just get an error message along with the instruction to 'check Log', which I've looked at and is totally meaningless to me, as I have no knowledge. All I ever wanted was the fully formed character... Best regards. Ken

  • Can anyone tell me please is there a way to PM an artist whose product you bought?

Hi Ken.  PMing the artist isn't going to be helpful for you.  It's an older product and the artist may not be available.

The #1 person to listen to is Richard Hasseltine... He is super smart and patient and he probably knows more than me!!!

    quick summary:

    • you will need to first load Genesis into the scene.
    • select genesis
    • apply the new character from smart content.

don't give up hope.  learning new things can be frustrating and it sometimes hurts my head... yet it's worth it in the end!!

  • Thank you Lyoness, been at it for eight days now, I've only lasted this long because I want this character as a major character in my iClone feature film. If I load Genesis I can't seem to load the dwarf. I am a VERY patient man, but I am starting to curse having ever seen the 'Dwarf for Genesis'...

Once you have the genesis base figure loaded, do you have it selected in the Scene tab? With the base figure selected in that tab you should be able to double click shaping/material presets which would then he applied to said figure.
  • Hello Kai, thank you for your answer. After all these days I have something... not the character I bought but some of him. Right from the start I've been plagued with error messages (which I had no idea about) and now I've got thus far, the software can't find files (attached) again... I have no clue

Okay, do you have "Michael 5"?

That product is using an AutoFitted (converted) version of the Michael 4 Anatomical Elements (the genitals). That product is part of the Michael 4 Body Morphs, and it would need to be loaded from the Poser format content directory, applied to the Genesis figure (at which the AutoFit dialogue should open and you would pick Michael 4 as the original figure), and saved after going through the AutoFit dialogue to (hopefully) generate the file being requested.

That's odd Richard! It only lists Michael 5 in required products, though I did wonder as the error specifies M4!!

The file highlighted on your screen shot is for adding genital hair, that genital hair says "M4" on it. To apply it, as Richard said, you'd need to apply /load the M4 genital morph to the figure.

Hello Richard and Kai, My head is starting to hurt now... :(

And what you are trying to do is the easy stuff in DS, LOL I am sure Iclone has as much if not worse of a learning curve. Keep at it, hopefully it will all click sooner than later.

Maybe easy when you know how, my first experience with Daz in 2012/13 was awful, after 3 days I gave up and uninstalled. It felt too overwhelming and I got nowhere. It wasn't until mid 2015 I gave it another try and yes, a lot of the stuff seems easier now after 5years of tutorials etc but I understand how daunting and painful it can be for new users, especially dealing with older M4/early genesis which were a lot less beginner user friendly than newer content!!

You are correct, I should have clarified it by saying basic functionality instead of easy stuff. i was trying to get across that the OP is also using other advanced software (IClone) and getting both to work together is more advanced and has more of a learning curve than just normal Daz Studio use.

Personally, as a oong time poser user I tried Daz Studio off and on for over a year before it actually clicked for me.

  • Hello,

I have no doubt if I started to really sit down and study Daz Studio, I would get to grips with the software. However, I'm using iClone, which I used to use a decade ago, and am now sufficiently advanced (loads of stuff I don't know...) in the new version of the software to be making a feature film. This is not boastful, simply stating a fact. My credentials are:- I publish my books under the name Kenneth J Matthews, I possess an MA in screenwriting and have had four short films produced. I am now producing 'The Santa Stone' as a feature and this character, whom was going to be called 'Barber Greytoe', is a key figure in the book. All I wanted to do was get the Daz 3D character (Loved it, it was perfect) I bought and paid for... which was when I dscovered just how difficult buying a Daz 3D figure is... Thank you all for your help, you have been most kind.

    Best regards.

    Ken.

    Hello Matted Beard,

it is not a morphing-pose for the dwarf, only the textures. For adding the dwarf to your Genesis Male, you have to add Genesis 1 to your scene, select him, add the textures and then go to the shaping-tab. If it isn't opened, go first to Window-Panes (Tabs) and open the shaping-tab. There you find a slider for the dwarf.

    best, Peter

  • Thank you Peter,

I've actually deleted all Daz 3D software from my computer, but my thanks for the information, I've lost far,far too much time on my project.

    Best regards.
