Shadow map creation time?
Hi,
I'm wondering what affects the time it takes for a render to create shadow maps? I'm using 3Delight, and my scenes are probably fairly basic compared to many. I don't really go for photorealism, my scenes tend to use two or three characters, four or five lights and props such as a vehicle and building in the background. Usually the shadow maps only take a few minutes, but sometimes the process seems to struggle and freeze. So, what affects the process? Textures? Polygons? Other things?

EDIT: I think this issue may have happened when using newer figures (gen 3) rather than older,(M4, Gen 1) ?

Many of the newer figures have Iray shaders applied. Holding down the Ctrl key, ignore images, apply a 3D shader.
Hair also slows down renders but for 3D, on the Parameters Tab there's normally an option available to turn off shadows for individual items.
