DAZ Connect Library Inquiry

borgtrekkerborgtrekker Posts: 112

Hi all,

According to my DAZ Connect Cloud file there is currently over 1TB of files stored there, which seems rather high to me...  Is it unusual for the cloud file to be this large and if not can these files be deleted without effecting Studio or its operation?

The pathway for this file on my "M" Drive where my Sudio Library is installed is M:\My DAZ Connect Library\Data\Cloud.

If these files can be deleted do I keep the Metadata file or does it get deleted also?

Many thanks.

Wade

"Cloud" is just a stupid name assigned to the folder that contains all the content you installed from inside Daz Studio. If you delete those files, you will not be able to load or render any of the products you installed from inside Daz Studio. If you installed those same products with DIM or manual install and ALSO installed the products from inside Daz Studio, you have duplication of files and that is a bigger mess to deal with. I don't know the best way to clean that up.

So if I am following you correctly deleting these files will prevent Studio from accessing any of these products and no I have only installed these from inside of Studio.

Just wanted to make sure I followed your train of thought.

    Yes, you understand.

If there are products there that you don't want to use anymore, you should not just delete the files from your hard drive. You should uninstall them from within Daz Studio. If you just delete the files from the hard drive manually, the Daz Studio database will not know that and will think they are still installed. All those files will probably show up with thumbnails with exclamation marks indicating that they are missing. That makes a real mess of your content library inside Daz Studio.

Before you commit yourself to the Connect's way of installing content do understand that it is non-expandable compared to DIM or manually installing content. There can be only a single connect install location in your entire library as Connect, unlike DIM, cannot install into multiple different locations. So you are restricted to the same drive/volume/partition for all stuff installed via Connect. And once that drive fills up, you may have to migrate the entire contents to a larger drive in order to keep using Connect. Since Connect does not support expandability of your content library you may need to consider other options like RAID logical volumes to support expandable storage. Since you already reached 1TB of usage, its probably time to give it a thought.

Regarding metadata, it is stored in a PostgreSQL database which Daz likes to refer as the CMS or sometimes with a much more glorified term called Content Cluster. The metadata stays in the database even if you uninstall the content. The location of the data files for this database is different from your content.

Many thanks to the both of you for the info and help.  This shouldn't be a problem as Connect is installed with my library on an 8 TB external drive that is RAID Striped in half thus dupluicating all of the info installed and the drive currently has over 2.4 TB of space remaining.  However it is most helpful to know that content installed via DAZ connect has so many restrictions to it and expandability is so limited.
