Question about importing 3D models

WonderlandWonderland Posts: 7,060

I probably should know this by now but I’ve never needed to do this before. Question: can you import fbx models and if so, can you make a low poly object higher poly buy adding subd? This is regarding a plant, so I’m wondering if the transmap is enough to make it look good close up. It’s sold as meant for mobile but I need it for larger scale 2D renders. Thanks.

fbx doesnt work 95% of the time.  Just import fbx in blender and export as obj.

You can add subd in blender or daz.  It will make it higher poly technically but whether that means anything depends on the model.

Don't really need to know it to just import - FBX model, then export - OBJ model. Carrara can also do it and I believe poser also, depending on version.

As for adding subd, depends on how the model was designed. If not welded correcly, your mesh will distort badly. Also keep in mind that adding subd can also destroy your UVMapping.
