Would you PLEASE hold the sword!

edited June 2020 in New Users

Need some help.

Here is the situation.  I create a G8F.  Now I want her to hold a sword.  I got into my content library and find a sword.  Click on my character in the scene tab, then click on the sword in the content library.

Now, if the sword was "created" as a G8 prop, it usually will go in the characters hand.  But if the sword was developed pre-G8, the sword goes to where the G3 Hand would be in a G3 T-Pose.  If I pose the G8 Character, the sword moves, but is nowhere near my G8's Hand.
Thinking I would outsmart the system, I bought the G3 to G8 pose converter... followed the instructions and ran the script on the pose section of the weapons pack, but the processed hand poses didn't take... the sword still floats around the G8 Character's hand, not in it.

What can I do to link the item to the hand?  Is there some way to put the G8 Figure in the G3 Default position so that when I add a G3 prop, it goes where it is supposed to go?

For the sake of argument, here is the asset I was trying to get into the G8 Hand

Thanks, in advance.

    1. Load Geenssi 3 female, load the sword.
    2. Select the sword, Edit>Copy>Copy Selected Item(s)
    3. Right-cick on the sword>Change ... Parent
    4. Select the Genesis  8 Female hand in the list of nodes, uncheck Parent In Place
    5. With the Sword still selected, Edit>Paste>Paste to Selected Item(s)

That should have the sword in the same position relative to G8F's hand as it was in relation to G3F's

  • Pardon my lack of understanding.

Are you saying load a G3 figure AND a G8 Character into a scene?
Assuming I just opened daz up... and there is nothing in the scene.
    Add G3 Character
    Add G3 Sword to Character
Add G8 to the Scene (so now there are two characters)
Then follow your steps above... ending in "delete the G3 Character from the scene"
So now I should just have the G8 with the Sword?

    Yes, exactly.

I tried with other swords from the Kadis outfit and Alicia outfit as I don't have the mage weapons, and in both cases step 5 returns the sword to G3F. Hopefully the OP will have better luck with the mage weapons.

Was the sword parented to the genesis 3 female hand when you tried? Is it actually a prop, not a fitted figure?

  • I was hoping that there was a simpler (easier) soltution that having to load a G3 and G8 yadda yadda... but thanks.

For the record, I tried using a script that puts the G8 figure in the G3 default pose HOPING that when I loaded it, it would magically appear in the right spot.
    Alas, no.

I am kind of surprised that the G3 to G8 Pose Converter didn't work on the Pose Files in the Mage Weapons pose folder... kind of feel like that was money wasted.

    Oh well....

Another trick to try after creating your scene:

    1. Load your sword into the scene without parenting it to any figure. (DO NOT PARENT THE SWORD)

    2. Move the sword into the desired position in the main window.

    3. Open the scene tab and expand the G8 figure until you see the hand of choice.

    4. Select the sword in the "scene tab" and drag it up to the hand of choice.

Now you can pose the G8 figure and the sword will move with hand.

For this Parent In Place must be on - it has a toggleable entry in Scene pane options menu, the lined button in the top corner or right-click the tab.
