Genesis 8 Character And Weapon Holding Issue

I've been having difficulty getting Genesis 8 characters to hold weapons designed for G8 figures. I have had some success, but it's been unpredictable and has taken more than an hour for each figure. I'm obviously doing something wrong because these items are designed to be compatible with these figures.

I start with the nude figure in the base position, and drag the weapon so that the hand is highlighted. The pop-up will sometimes not offer "parent to hand" as an option. Even when it does, and I accept it, the weapon will be near the hand or in front of it, but not held by the hand. In many instances after I click "accept", the weapon will appear on the floor between the figure's feet.

There is a brief DAZ tutorial video that shows how this is done, and it looks very simple. I haven't been able to get it to work the way it does in the video.

What steps am I leaving out? Is there another way to accomplish parenting a weapon to a hand?

Be sure that the weapon you are laoding is a parented prop - some may instead be figures that are intended to be fitted. In general if the item is made for a figure it should be enough to double-cick the preset with the figure, or any bone of the figure, selected. If it is a prop, make sure itt's the version for the hand you want - many sets will include a version for each hand and a zeroed version (for use separated from the figure).

Thanks for your reply! I looked a little more carefully, and found that the prop is in fact hand specific. Now everything works as advertised. Whew!

I have a listing for the prop that must be the zeroed version, which is good to know about. I guess this would be handy in a scene where it might be on a table, in a rack or even on the ground.
