how do you adjust the hight of a figure without scaling everything?

It depends on the morphs you have available.  The simplest is scaling only on the Y-axis.  If you have some basic morph sets, you can also try increasing things like thigh or shin length.

the thing is all I get is a single scale parameter that scales everything at the same time

If you get the base morphs, there is a height slider

Yeah, forgot the y-scale is hidden for characters.  If you type "length" or  "height" into the search box when you select "Actor" in the parameters does anything come up?   If you want to start adjusting characters, you should get the morph set FSMC mentioned.  There is a similar one for faces, which you should also get.  They're on sale a lot.

You won't get ALL these morphs with the basic morph pack.  I have a lot of other morph packs.

    thank you the pictures help.

  • What's wrong with the Scale parameter?

It's quick and efficient. It does not fundamentally change the shape of the figure like some of the Length morphs, which can cause clothing distortions and other problems.

Yeah, you have to address Scale with props that your character holds onto. The solution for that is math - simple division.

Really, Scale is the first thing I use unless I absolutely want to change the shape of the figure and not just the height.

    ..look under Actor/Full Body/Real World.

scale is the last thing I would use since it affects more than just the height on a figure which can throw off the proportions.

Can you start with a shorter figure, like Mei Lin? Or even dialing some Mei Lin in should work.

Teen Jane & Alawa are alternatives to Mei Lin (their all 5' 4"). Rynne and Mika are 5' 3" or so. Karyssa's 5' 2".

After using the height slider then go and use the legs length slider. Or. like they say, start with a shorter figure to begin with.

You dial in a character, you like the proportions, then you remember to check the height... and then when you use the Height dial to anything more than a slight adjustment, you get spider legs (making taller) or a barrel body (making shorter).
Then you need to start the proportioning process all over again to achieve something that is pleasing to the eye.

Maybe the Height dial produces something that is "realistic", but I don't put much stock in realism. Scale is faster, and less disruptive.

Click the gear on the height slider, select parameter settings, and uncheck "use limits" next to min and max and you can go shorter. I have several characters smaller than 5'6" by turning off parameter limits.
