skull cove lights and ground shadows? is there a light type/setting to only cast shadows?

the skull cove lightset has 1 ibl ligt and 1 sun light.
no matter how i mess with it, i can't make it throw shadows on the ground. it's a brigtly lit day.
is there any way to alter one of the existing lights to make ray trace shadows on the ground?
do i need to do something to the ground texture?
is there such a thing as a light to only cast shadows but not add light to the scene?

Try reducing the intensity of the IBL light
The Fill light (ambient IBL As just noted above) is set to high. It is washing out any shadows cast.

is there quick way in DS to move a figure next to a prop?
so like, to move g2m next to/at a building in the skull cove, can i do that with a couple of clicks?
the building is 0,0, copying the trans is a no solution.
