Replacing materials on one body part

I saw a post on how this was possible, but for the life of me I cannot Google it again.

How can I apply materials from a character preset to a single body part instead of replacing all materials?  For example, if I have applied morphs and materials for G8 character "X", but I really like the materials for the teeth of G8 character "Y", how can I apply the materials preset to just the teeth and not have it replace materials for the entire character?

TIA

Select the surfaces you wish to have an effect on, go to the material .duf file and press and hold the Ctrl (Cmd on a MAC) button when selecting.  Choose 'selected' from the option dialog when it appears.

  • That is exactly what I was looking for.  Thank you so much!

  • I have also done this using the geometry editor. Select the polygons in the mesh that you want to isolate. Then under the menu that appears when you right click in the viewport, choose make surface from selected. Then it will appear as a separate suface to which you can assign material properties.  I have used this approach to isolate a light bulb from the rest of a lamp model so that I could assign to the bulb a surface emitter. Then under iray it acts just like an actual lamp would.
