It is being sold for G8M, but the folder is found under G8F. Okay fine, I can copy links over, not a problem.
But REALLY, this does not look ANYTHING like what is advertized.
Is this something we can fix, or is it ticket time?
edited to mention, this is a render.

That looks like it's a strandbased hair, preview needs to be turned on to generate it in the preview, to my best guess.
That's a render.
It is tiresome that female hairs are constantly getting sold as male hairstyles.
Well at the moment this looks more like a hairstyle for a ghost, any gender!
Boy am I glad i didn't buy that. Yikes.
It came in the bundle, so I hope somebody fixes it.
Well, I opted for the base figure, one character and the beard, and thought that hair looked silly in the promos anyways.
Oh thank goodness. I saw two different renders in the Ashan 8 thread with the hair looking like that and NO ONE else said boo about the weirdness of hair there. I thought I was losing it. lol
I don't own the hair so I can't check myself on what might be the issue with it. I recommend putting in a support ticket, as I'm sure they want to know about this so that they can fix it.
I think somebody mentioned a question about the hair 'cause in another's render it looks the same, really weird. But also, nobody has touched the subject, I don't know why. So bravely forth go I, I just put in a ticket. We'll see what happens.
Yeah, I'm pretty surprised no one else has mentioned it. Thank you for putting in a support ticket about it. I'm sure others who bought it will also be thankful (once it's fixed). :)
Well as the sales are still on I'm going to mention that IF you also received a banner for further price reduction on the pro bundle, with that plus a few of the add-ons, the price is pennies more [depending upon which extras one buys of course, I bought extra characters and a texture set] than what would be paid for the base figure, one character and the beard. Plus you can get one of the choices for a bundle or bundles then.
You shouldn't have to, but click on the "Preview On" property file with Atlas hair selected and then it renders fine.
And so it does. Thank you :-)
You know, I had checked the Parameters' settings, saw nothing turned off. I certainly had not turned them off myself. But all fixed now :-)
It's the settings. I don't know if they're doing what they were meant to, but they're not working the way people expect, that's for damn sure.
In the folder with the hair in the content library, there are two additional presets:
- Turn Preview Off For Easier Use
- Preview On
Definite Issue 1: They don't quite look like presets that do anything, they look like instructions.
Suspected Issue 2: I don't use Smart Content, but I'll bet those suckers are hard to find there.
The hair loads with Preview Off, whatever that does.
Select the hair. Double click "Preview On".
Suddenly, the luxuriant mane appears in the workspace! It's actually a pretty heavyweight hair in scene; it slowed down my machine noticeably, and it's got 64GB RAM.
Render. The hair appears in the resulting image!
I don't expect Support actually can do anything with a ticket, because the hair is working as designed. At best, they could redo the setup so that Preview was actually On and the hair would be visible in the workspace and would reliably render, but then, most people couldn't actually use it, because their systems would choke.
EDIT for additional notes:
1) This is dForce hair and is meant to simulate, even though there's not one single word about it in the product page. However, there are simulation settings in the parameters.
2) I tend to turn off "Start Bones from Memorized Pose" because the majority of dForce stuff doesn't need it, and my system, for some reason, objects to the concept. HOWEVER. If you do this and you tell Studio to simulate, it will crash. It may crash no matter what; I've no idea, because I have no intention of ever simulating it again, but it definitely crashes Studio with Memorized Pose turned off.
On the actually nice side: the promos made it look kind of hopelessly bouncy and floofy and very very very female, and it's not quite that. It's kind of 60s hippie looking.
I closed the ticket.
Thanks all for the help :-)
are you serious? People were posting renders like that?
not owning it I cannot test but surely you can leave it as is for viewport but have it enabled for rendering, I have had strand hairs set to only visible in render not preview
Yes I had checked the settings, was expecting it to show in a full render, but apparently it won't unless one runs the script or whatever it is that comes with the product.
Yes, of course you can, but you have to know to do that. It's really not at all clear that this is how the hair is supposed to work. Especially if you're not very experienced with Strand/dForce hair. And especially because there's quite literally nothing at all on the product page that tells you it's dForce. It also doesn't look like strand-based hair in the workspace; it doesn't have those big thick sparse guide hairs that others do. If you don't happen to notice the Simulation section of the parameters, you won't have a clue what's going on. The instructions are also not clear; at the very least, that button should say something like "Turn on for Preview AND Render."
Made me a new icon for it. It's a share ;-)

Well, this thread solves one recent puzzle. Will I remember in the future? Not a chance.
Had loaded this hair again, was hoping to resize it for a particular character ... and I discovered that, if the hair is not 'parented' to the figure, it will not show all the hairs either.
Was a ticket ever put in for this product?
Yes I did way back when, then closed it when we all discovered how to make it visible.
