Poser resources into Daz Connect/4.12?

All of the threads I've seen are old, so I am unable to locate information on if any procedures have changed for the new Daz Connect. I am attempting to unzip some Poser resources into my Daz library- but none of the files seem to be recognized in Daz for it to be imported automatically, or for it to allow me to do it manually. I don't actually have Poser to open them first and work with them there, either, but to my knowedge they're supposed to be compatible with the same figures across platforms, so it seems like the new update shouldn't have made all Poser content unusable to Daz going forward? Does Daz COnnect handle things differently than DIM did? I currently put them in my Daz Library, under their exact unzipped file structure, but it's still not recognizing anything in them as usable except for one. I'm not sure what else to try; maybe installing the zips in the DIM folder instead, and seeing if Daz Connect wants to unzip them for me and create its own file structure?

Daz Connect can't install external content, it is not used at all when you install manually.

How did you install the products exactly? There might be an extra folder in the original zip before the Runtime, so extracting direcly to your library may not put them in the right place.

Also, where are you looking for the files? They're not likely to appear in Smart Content or Product view, as content made for Poser usually doesn't have the metadata required for that. But you should be able to find them in "Content library" tab under "Poser formats" (Once you've found them it's possible to categorize them to make them appear in Smart Content)

  • Ugh. Daz ate my comment. I've tried moving them all one folder up, tried the Content Library pane, tried Importing, but even though I can view the files in my computer, Daz does not seem able to find them- hence me wondering whether in the switch to Daz Connect, Daz had rewritten the file structure, rendering the tutorials we are working off dead.

Moving to Daz Studio Discussion as it's a DS question rather than a Poser Question.

Exactly where are the files (pick the CR2), and whata re your current Poser Format content directories set to?

  • Thanks- I wasn't sure where to put it, since it pertained to poser-specific file types, and I figured that at some point, someone might suggest workarounds in Poser, or otherwise feel that the discussion merited being there.

Spent 14 hours today troubleshooting it. Apparently the formats in the files I was sent was all over the place- some had to be converted from MT5, but more crucially, I had to basically rebuild all the directory placements from scratch, because as they were in the zip apparently wasn't able to be read by Daz, and had to be recreated by trial and error. It was a nightmare to do. And DC wasn't helping, since I basically had to uninstall the rest of my existing Daz content to get a clear handle on which files where the specific ones I needed to be able to see. I'm about to reinstall them all. I miss the old DIM, since it would be a handful of clicks on that instead of clicking for an hour straight, at least of clicking "install" one at a time. Not good for my wrist problems.

Glad we got it figured out, but hoo, boy. Let's not do that again.

You know that DIM is still available and still works, right?

  • Really? I haven't been able to find a download option for it. I switched to a new computer not long after the Daz Connect switchover, and have not been able to find an installer for DIM since they rolled out DC.

You can find it either here or at the bottom of the download studio page (by default it tries to download DazCentral, but the links for DIM are stll there)

DazCentral is mainly for new users with simple setups, and it doesn't have a Mac version yet. DIM is still there for Mac users or more advanced Windows users.
