Question about Modern Interiors HDRI

Still very much a newbie, so:

I have a *very* basic understanding of how an HDRI can add a view of the world beyond the set and a lighting solution to an outdoors scene.

What I'm wondering is whether "Modern Interiors HDRI" and other indoors HDRI products are intended to be used for lighting indoor scenes made with sets and props (if the background HDRI images are switched off), or if these products are primarily supposed to be used for more or less instant indoors backdrops with built-in lighting?

Basically, I'm looking to know if this product would be useful to me for lighting indoors scenes - I need a new release to activate today's discounts, and this is one of the candidates.

They will work the same as all HDRI, if the indoor scene is self contained then any light from the HDRI will be blocked. These HDRI will be used as your scene and light.

So an interior with a ceiling would block lighting from the HDRI, right? Meaning the ceiling would have to be cut away to make much use of the HDRI? Otherwise you'd only get some light streaming in from windows, cave openings, etc?

That's more or less what I was thinking based on some light reading, but I wasn't sure about it.

Thanks - I appreciate the help.

If you want ambient light inside a room then there are ways to do that. You can make all the wall and or Ceiling surfaces Emissive, use the diffuse maps in the Emissive Chanel and keep the Lumen low so that the light is subdued.

Thanks - I'll keep those things in mind as possibilities. I'm (slowly) working from a tutorial to learn more about the ins and outs of lighting. For the moment, I was mostly curious if indoors HDRI was a potential shortcut for quickly lighting a scene since that particular product would trigger discounts on some other things that I'm considering. I think I'll pass on it, at least until I'm better equipped to decide whether I'd actually make use of it or not.
