The last DAZ Update is killing me. I'm getting this error:
The file could not be found.
C:/Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4/scripts/support/DAZ/Contributors/Dreamlight.dse
And then my whole system opens up in some sort of unusable white mish-mosh.

What are you trying to do when you get this error?
I'm trying to start up Daz Studio.
It sounds like you had DS open when you installed it. Did you use DIM or a stand-alone installer?
I believe it was closed.
I used the Daz Install Manager. After it was messed up, I went to my Product list, hit the Download And Install, and ran it through the DIM again, same problem.
Make sure it's closed, and check Task Manager to make sure DAZStudio.exe isn't still running in processes. Then uninstall it with DIM and reinstall it.
I think I'm good now.
I uninstalled Daz Studio (I didn't use DIM to do it, though.) I used DIM to re-install and it's all good.
But.
Some other things were acting weird so I re-booted in safe mode and then ran chkdsk. I had some bad sectors in the DIM area. I'm testing things now.
Step 1: Stop whatever you are doing.
Step 2: If you haven't done so already or if it is not up-to-date, create a backup of your drive's contents.
Step 3: Check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive. Even if it shows no errors, go on to step 4.
Step 4: Run the diagnostic utility for your hard drive - the one from your drive manufacturer, downloadable from their website (Western Digital, Seagate, etc.) - chkdsk will not provide the info you need. Run the short test for starters - any serious problems should show up. If the short test comes up clean, run the long test - its a a bit of a pain, but necessary to ensure the integrity of the disk. If either test shows failure, save a copy of the log file, then
Step 5: If the drive is within warranty, request an RMA from the manufacturer and follow their instructions.
If you have a spare drive you can use your backup to recreate the contents. Warning: If you return the drive for repair or replacement, the manufacturer will not return it with your files loaded - you'll get a blank drive. You'll need a backup or second drive.
The problem with chkdsk is that it will relocate files in bad sectors and mark the bad sectors so that the operating system doesn't see or use them. But this only covers up underlying issues, since sectors shouldn't suddenly "go bad" for no reason. It is usually a sign of impending drive failure.
