Active Pose tool with Genesis 8 Male

I've used this tool quite a lot with the earlier genesis & genesis 2, I've also had a little play with M4 - and I've found it easy to use. But if I try using it with the Genesis 8 Male, I very quickly end up with a figure that is horribly deformed. All I'm trying to do is simple arm movements, dragging the hand & forearm around as appropriate - as I say easy with the other figures I've used - I'm finding it impossible with G8 male.

I assume I'm missing something fundamental - any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

I pose all my people using the dials for the reasons you outlined. With Poser it was a much more easy to gently drag bones around without generating a Quasimoto. I only use the Active Pose tool to zoom into body parts to make fine adjustments, zero poses and morphs etc.
