Sluggish DAZ behavior....It just seems to get worse...

in The Commons
Has anybody else noticed sluggish DAZ behavior during scene building, even when not in IRAY mode?
It seems like character posing, and switching from body part to body part is now a click and wait process...(Driving me nuts)
I'm experiencing this in a lightly furnished set with a single G8F character...Yeeesh...
As I switch from each body part I click, then the computer thinks, then it switches....ugh...
Now I have a beast of a Computer with a 10 core processor and 128Gig of ram...and yes I do mean GIG. I also have a Titan 12 GIG graphics card...
Things should not be slow...

The one thing that seems to slow down scenes for me like that, is having a few items with smoothing turned on.
Posing can be slow when the figure has a lot of morphs (specifically a lot of morphs with corrective links for joint bends) as the application has to trace through all the ramifying connections.
I can only confirm that, even more, stripping the scene to an unmorphed, untextured G8F/G8M with no subdivission and no other scene inventory, it is not possible to have a fluid behavior, not for posing nor what I wanted to do - animation. If anyone has tips how to have a fluid priview of a walking G8F/G8M (as a sample) and not only pose tweening between different poses - please post here. 18 cores i9 and Titan RTX 24GB with 128 GB Ram here btw.
Daz should make finding some kind of remedy a priority. There have been many times recently that I've resisted impulse purchase purely because I didn't want to further burden my system with additional morphs, and I don't want to spend my time juggling content directories, or heavens forbid, make use of Daz Connect to manage my content.
I created a second runtime for pose building which only has G8m, Michael 8, and g8f. Poses load and apply like lightening. But when I use my standard runtime it is pretty slow. The reason? Too many morphs, including poorly saved ones by store pas saved in every wrong place. That can really bog down the pose process.
A second Runtime with only base installment is indeed a good idea, I think. I have to try that out.
Just tried and it's indeed a good idea to activate a second minimal base Runtime (only G8 Starter Essentials for instance) INSTEAD of a fully loaded Runtime with all characters and morphs. It's just a few mouse clicks to add or to remove a base Runtime from DAZ Studio Content Libary / DAZ Studio Formats Container. So G8 loads and moves fast again and in real time, especially necessary when you work with poses and animations and need to see the moving. Poses and animations can be saved and applied later to the full character and scene. I used the Beta for it and it works fine.
You can also set up alternative content directory sets through the Content Directory Manager (Edit>Prefrences>Content tab) - they can even have different content databases.
Your setup is basically mine (I'll be upgrading to the 10980XE soon and have both a TITAN RTX and 128GB of D4). That said, I only notcie considerable sluggishness with Smoothed Clothing and Objects.
It's definitley a software problem, not the hardware - my solution for now is a second streamlined Runtime (content directory) with only the base things I need for diving a bit more into animation. The Studio Beta is a good solutio for that, it runs even side by side.
I find this works best for making and saving poses. It is an easy no-fuss solution. Glad it worked out.
That's a great idea! I set this up in the Beta version of Daz Studio (just in case I messed something up lol), and it works great (I just had to make sure to shut down Daz Studio and then reopen it for the changes to fully take effect). Thanks, Richard!
Wow. Thanks so much for the tip. I never realized you could create new content sets.
I'll have to try this....It seems like a good work around...
