Posing Wardrobe Items - Parameters, Shaping, Handles

Hi, 

This is making me crazy because I must be missing something very basic. Some wardrobe items I try to get onto a figure never do what I want them to do. I play with every slider, handle (if included), and parameter I find and I either end up with clothes that looks like a knotted mess, 

or just won't move in the direction I want.   Please see the attached image  Those sleeves... Playing around with the included sleeve handles will start to move them down, but then they just take off in some other direction. 

If anyone can point to some good tutorials about posing, specifically what I'm trying to do - or - can teach me a thing or two about this, I'd appreciate it greatly!
