dForce hair is spotty

Some of the deforce (and other) hair have spotty problems. Especially black hair. In some cases it's just WAY too much to photoshop out. And I shouldn't have to do it. The spots appear in rendering, as well as in iray view. Any ideas out there?

It isn't sufficiently converged so it's still showing noise.Try doing a spot render in a new window (Tool Settings pane) of just the hair, or try increasing the Render Quality (Render Settings).

Does the render settings affect the Iray view?

No, Iray preview is controlled by the Draw Settings pane.

I've heard the increase the convergence line of thought, but it's a bit too much voodoo for me.  Personally, I first question if I  really need so much reflection on the surfaces.  Tone the reflections down, and you won't have so many light spots to converge in the first place.   "The best way to speed up a computer is to have it do less."(tm)
