A Few Newbie Problems became a Major Difficulty then a Total Disaster
Using a MacBook Pro 17’ - 8MbRam - 1Gb HD - OS X 10.9.3 - Processor 2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Originally downloaded Daz3D Studio and it sort of worked - Bought extras to add and everything has gone downhill from there.
I have probably re-downloaded 15 times and am still no closer to a working system.
I think my problems are situated somewhere around the ‘install path’ area - I am completely unfamiliar with this process as I have
always used a Mac, never having sullied my fingers on a PC !!!
I am finding it impossible to set the recommended path (Users\My Account\Documents\Daz3D\Studio\My Library)
With my original download I did have a ‘Studio Folder’ but it has now totally disappeared. Not showing anywhere via a search.
Should I create a new Folder and call it Studio ?
How can I totally remove everything and start from scratch - I have tried ‘uninstall’ and also manually removing every trace of Daz files
including library items such as Launch Daemons, Startup Items, Literally everything. BUT it is almost as if there is some other control or
record of the previous installation (something included in the DIM ?).
I have cleaned up my system using ‘Disk Utility’ and repaired permissions and all is reported OK.
I am literally tearing my last few remaining strands of hair out - Help Please. Pretty Please. Name your price, etc.

Hello,
There are some places where DAZ Studio and DIM store things, and what has happened over the changes of Mac OS X is that these places have changed.
DAZ Studio and DIM may store things in /Users/Shared or in ~/Library/Application Support, but I don't really think you need to delete that. What I suspect is the main problem here is that the CMS (Content Management System thinks the content is in one place, DIM in one place and DAZ Studio in yet another place. It is very important that you decide where you want the content to be installed, and the setup DIM to install to that location, DS to find content at that location.
So Steps.
(1) Make a decision where you will have your content. I would recommend either create a folder like /Users/Shared/My Library or if you will have a lot of content and is low on diskspace (1TB would be sufficent though unless you are mad like me).
(2) Start DAZ Studio, go to Preferences , Content Library and click [Content Directory Manager...]. There open up the directorytrees for DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats ands set them to point at the directory you just created.
(3) Now in DAZ Studio go to the Content DB Maintenance ... and select Reset Database.
(4) Now Start DIM, and click the cog and setup the directories there too to match the one you created.
Now Download and install and you would be good to go unless something else is weird. If DIM says you have a lot of installed already I recommend trying to find where DIM stores it's download files.
Hollar if you have any problems.
Thanks very much for the prompt reply - I will follow your thoughts and let you know how I get on.
Just a quickie .... Do we still have to download Poser installs if we only use DS ?
The are really two kinds of Poser Installs.
Older content has Poser content + DS materials, you need both
Newer content has DS content with DSON addons, you don't need the DSON addons.
You are the man - Equivalent to teaching someone living in Kansas how to ride a surfboard .... but you did it !
I visit Los Angeles every year .... If you are within range I'll stand you beers all night.
Thanks a million, you saved my sanity.
Ted
If you ever cross the pond and visit Scandinavia ;-)
It's possible - I ride a fast Motorbike and ferries run to the Continent from Wales .... A bit cheaper than LA too.
Shwmae, nice to meet another from Wales. South Wales Valleys here. :coolsmirk:
Duw mun - Whose coat is this jacket Butty. Halfway between the Hole with the Mint in it & Ynysangharad Park
Ah, we are bit further up, Heads of the Valleys, right on the edge of Dowlais leading up towards Pant. Can see the Heads of Valleys road from outside our house. Been here 5½ years now. Wouldn't mind visiting the hole with the mint in it, do they give free samples. :coolsmirk:
I can see the inspiration of Dowlais Top in a few of your excellent Landscapes.
Thanks. I love living up here. We retired here from close to London. but had many many happy holidays in Wales, so it was a no brainer as to where we wanted to move to. Late husband was Welsh (West Wales).
Similar circumstances - It's a bugger being on your own - But I suppose life is what we make it.

Himself says nice duck pond you have in your Park there.
