so you downloaded a freebie bike and there's only one material for the whole bike?

this script will create one material/surface per group name

it creates a copy of your .obj file with those changes in the same disk folder with the same filename but the suffix 'out'

yeah I spent literally hours selecting by parts and assigning to new surface on the Riot Games cinematic models with the geometry editor

this would have been a godsend then

thanks a lot for this very useful, very appreciated script! just made an incursion in newly discovered open3dmodels, found many interesting things - but i'll have quite a bit of work of format conversion from whatever to obj, then hopefully not much or no UV fumbling (edit: yeah... keep on dreaming...most of the UV get lost during conversion, taken the items actually had some. except fbx, but this format has other surprises), and of course the usual material panel war until they're daz-eable as props... so your script is an absolute must have! yes

I know where it saves the new obj and its name but where would I find the new uvmap or do I have to create one after using this script.

the uv mapping if there is one in the original file will be the same in the output .obj

if the .obj file has no UV coordinates, then you cant really apply image/textures to it and get something useful

    except ...

if you use one of my UVmap creator scripts ...

    https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts3/mcjboxuv

    https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts4/mcjsphericaluv

    https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts4/mcjcylindricaluv

    https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts4/mcjplanaruv

all this script does is, for each group in the original file, a material with the same name as the group is created

if there is already more than 1 material in the initial object, this script is possibly not useful

I know where it saves the new obj and its name but where would I find the new uvmap or do I have to create one after using this script.

    A link to the bike?

i think it was this one , i was searching for the word Ducati because i wanted to make the image below

    https://sharecg.com/v/54751/related/5/3D-Model/Ducati-Bike-Melod

i removed the bike stand by using Daz's Window/Panes (Tabs) / Tool Settings    then the Geometry Editor tool
