2nd Runtime on External Drive

I have run out of room on my internal hard drive.
I am trying to set up a 2nd Runtime on an External drive.
I'm on Windows 7, running Daz 4.9 & Carrara 8.5 Pro.
My computer is airlocked & I don't us DIM or any content management software
Does anyone have ANY idea of how to set up a runtime on an External drive???
I'm not very technical, so explain it like I'm 5 years old
Thanks
P.S I have searched the forums but can't find an explanation.

Create a folder on your external drive where you will install your content. That's the base folder where the "Runtime", "data" and other main folders should go when you install the content.
In DS go to Edit > Preferences, then Content tab, and open "Content directory manager". Add your new base folder to both "Daz studio formats" and "Poser formats" lists for "Current directories" set:
Now the content installed on your external drive should appear in your content library in DS.
I don't use Carrara so I don't know where you would add a content folder in it.
one thing to note here is having your runtime on an external is going to affect how fast your content loads in to your scene, particularly if your external is not connected via USB3. Even if it is USB3, it will still be slower, but much less so than if it was USB2
If you are the kind of person that has loads of morphs etc for your figure of choice, loading a figure from an external is going to be slow, even with USB3. Smaller static props etc are not so bad, but figures with loads of morphs and big environment sets will take some time to load.
A workaround would be to split your runtime into two - your figures and anything you use often you keep in an internal runtime. Everything else you put on an external runtime to free up space on your internal drive
I've had all my DAZ content on external hard drives for well over a decade. I've never had any troubles. Indeed sometimes, the external hard drives have proved life savers. Recently my iMac and Mac Mini died. The external hard drives work just fine.
