Is Hiro5 the latest male anime figure released? Which is your fave anime character?
Considering branching out into anime renders... is Hiro5 the latest one released by Daz in 2012?
Which is your favorite anime character?

Kenji 7 maybe considered Anime, there are probably other PA characters aswell.
There are also a lot of Stylized and Toon chars (eg by Marcius) but I have no idea which of those count as Anime.
Ahhh that's true, how could I have forgotten about Kenji... I wonder if Kenji was in fact supposed to be an improved anime version of Hiro... the latter seems to be "more anime" than the more realistic Kenji... but seems quite fun branching out into this genre of renders.
Yuzuru is anime-ish, although a different style of anime than Hiro or earlier Aiko versions. There’s a free anime head morph to G8M on ShareCG.
You just reminded me of Yuzuru as well, whose pro bundle has been on my wishlist forever and a day now, it seems to rarely get discounted... maybe I shall have to wait until Black Friday? :P
Although as you alluded to as well, Hiro and Aiko seem to be the true original "anime" characters (based on my very limited knowledge of anime).
If you haven't tried out Cartoonized, it may give you anime-like results. It's available for G8M and G8F. I use the Cartoonized morphs on most of my characters, even when I'm not trying for a stylized figure (just with the morphs set low.) I really find it a valuable asset in my G8M figures.

Interesting!! Thanks for the plug!
You're quite welcome, DMax!

Sasuke is a DAZ Original and traditional male anime

There's an Anime Filter for the store. Select "characters and wearables", select the generations/genders you want to search and set genre filter for anime. Don't forget to uncheck Hide items I own, as you may already have something that you've forgotten. Most of the better ones, in my opionion, are morphs for Yuzuru 8 and Kenji 7--- especially Hyun-Ki for Y8m https://www.daz3d.com/hyun-ki-for-yuzuru-8 , DD Keita for Y8 https://www.daz3d.com/dd-keita-for-yuzuru-8 and FWSA Fujio for K7 https://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-fujio-hd-for-kenji-7, but if you want something that doesn't require an existing base, Brandon for G2M https://www.daz3d.com/brandon and Ryel for G8M https://www.daz3d.com/ryel-for-genesis-8-male are okay. A much better choice, though, is over at Rendo, where an artist named muwawya has totally kocked the ball out of the park with two male characters that each work with G3M or G8M, Ayumu and Natsuo, along with a female counterpart and some amazing costumes.and anime hairstyles. That said, I often create most of my anime style males by just cross-gendering the female characters.
My favourite is Yuji by SithLordSims!
Ohhh Sasuke is a nice one... just a bit strange that his base is a female anime sakura! Added to my wishlist!
I will go check out Yuji, I assume it's outside of Daz.
Oh wow... I just added several of them to my wish list... Hyun Ki is especially nice!
SithLordSims sells on Renderosity
He was created to give Sakura a male counterpart, and since her style is very specific it was probably easier to start from the Sakura morph.
Yuzuru 8 is anime-ish - kind of a bit like Final Fantasy characters. Increase his eye size and drop his hip and pec size and he'd probably make a pretty decent anime character.
Briar Bramble and Bean also make fantastic anime characters, imo.
Agreed that Yuzuru8 is anime-ish... I guess there's pure anime, then realistic-anime then realistic. :P
I wish my interest in anime had been piqued earlier coz I probably just missed out on lots of summer anime sales... :(
@Hylas I just checked out Yuji... simply W.O.W... now when's that gift card sale on Rendo? haha :P And speaking of SithLordsims ... how hot is Falcon!!
There is no "pure" anime. There are different styles of anime.

Thanks for the examples and the precious insights! I guess I will have to figure out my own style and which character type will fit it best.
Here's hoping for an anime sale tomorrow! :P
To me, anime and manga is 2D.
If it's 3D then it is something else; not sure what, but still something else.
I very recently converted Aiko 3 to G8F, via the A3 add on for Genesis 1. Worked well.
I like the conversion and Sakura 8 too, although the eyes don't translate to 3D imo.
There have been quite a few 3D anime movies and TV series to come out lately. For example, Ultaman and Altered Cabon are on Netflix. They have very different styles, but are called anime. Ultraman looks more like traditional anime where Altered Carbon looks like a Tell Tales video game.
Edit: I forgot to answer the question. Hiro 5 is my favorite for traditional anime style but I also like Yuzuru 8 when going for a Final Fantasy style:
Thank you for this insight @nicstt - I too am trying to figure out the true definition of "anime" and what exactly it entails so that I can be as accurate as possible in my renders with respect to character (depth) choice; if ultimately the definition of "anime" is wide ranging, then so be it and all the merrier... let creativity be the limit!
If we're going to get technical, anime is any cartoon originating or made in Japan. Doesn't matter if it's 2D or 3D.
@tkdrobert I checked out both your examples and it's true... the styles are both different so I am beginning to understand that there might be no real definition of "anime" and that different styles may be adopted by each creator. I have added Hiro5 and Yuzuru8 to my wishlist as I am interested in them both, as well as definitely Yuji.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime - very interesting info here
"Body proportions of human anime characters tend to accurately reflect the proportions of the human body in reality...
A common anime character design convention is exaggerated eye size...
Anime and manga artists often draw from a defined set of facial expressions to depict particular emotions...
Hair in anime is often unnaturally lively and colorful or uniquely styled. The movement of hair in anime is exaggerated and "hair action" is used to emphasize the action and emotions of characters for added visual effect."
Yet more examples of a variety of anime styles.

That's like saying that Pixar movies aren't cartoons.
Agreed. It's still animation.
I think that is a good description of Japanese "Anime style."
I have Yuji on my wish list as well. You might be interested in this thread:

Anime literally means animation in Japanese. To them, the Simpsons and Mickey Mouse are anime. The whole western defniition of "anime"as a style is a subjective one, given that the look of anime can run from things like the Flintsones-esque Dr. Slump to hyperreal like the CG Appleseed films, which are, quite assuredly, considered to be anime on both sides of the Pacific. That said, the majority of "2D" style anime being done in Japan now is at least partially 3D, and when it's well done it can be really difficult to tell where the transitions are. And this is coming from someone who's worked in the anime industry for over 20 years. Of course, what everyone notices is when it's badly done, but with the cost of hand drawn animation now higher than they can afford to pay Japanese animators, CG is really the only way to keep making anime. Studio khara, for example, which has been producing the recent Evangelion Rebuild movies, is now using Blender and Greasepencil and even Studio Ghibli leans heavily on CG production now.
