Manual add content to Studio

I have downloaded a couple of freebies from other websites and I want to add them. I watched a video that was created in 2017 and I followed it but nothing showed up.
Here are the steps I took.  I opened up my documents (it is in one drive under user)  On the video they showed only one folder called Daz Content. I have three folders.
One is My Daz Connect Library, the second one is My Library, and the third is Render Library. I tried dragging the folders over to the first two folders and opened Daz Studio
and my content is not there. The product is a french twist hair.   There was four folders that I dragged over. Runtime, Documentation, People and Data.  The only thing that I
was not sure about was the Data folder. When you open the data folder under My Daz Connect Library, it has a folder called cloud which opens up to Meta,(I believe that is the
only folders.  I put the contents of the data folder under the cloud folder. When you open the data folder, you see two folders "cloud" and the folder from the freebie. What am I
doing wrong?  Thanks

My Library is where you want to add those folders so they merge with the matching folders in My Library.  They probably don't come with metadata*, so you'll need to find them in Content Library > Daz Studio Formats > My Library > People > ...

    * If the Runtime folder has a subfolder called Support then it does have metadata

  • The content manager gives two paths. One is the My Library in the one drive. And the other is in documents-public. I have put the files in both places with no luck. Again, nothing is showing up. I have watched two more videos which show that I have done in right. When I open Daz Studio, I have clicked on "refresh"   There was a tool tip that said I might have to change the "filters" but I have no idea what that means.
I also added some poses which were pretty simple as they only when under people and they are not showing up.  I will keep trying.

assuming you are doing things correctly, and from what I read it seems you did (well maybe except adding the same content to more then one place, that is not really an error but still useless and redundant - and more important the Connect folder is only for content installed using Daz Studio itself, the feature called Daz Connect, one of the many way to install official resources, others are Daz Central and DIM), once tyou start DS ot hit the refresh button you need to go to Content library tab and browse until you find the hair..

I have those free dforce hairs and they're are for Genesis 8 Female, so you need to double click folders until you reach them.. something like

    Default Library/People/Genesis 8 Female/Hair/zoro_d/French Twist Hair

the first item is the hair model, stuffs in subfolder are presets and colors to apply to the hair.. you'll find many other things into those folders (the default resources installed for the genesis figures, at least)

It sounds like the product has metadata -- you need to click the options menu (the icon in the upper right corner of a triangle pointing to the top line of a list) > Content DB Maintenance > Re-import Metadata.  Uncheck0 "User Data" and "Products", then scroll to the bottom and look for the French Twist Hair.  Check that box and click Accept.

  • I got the French Twist hair to show up. Importing the meta data did it.  But still haven't been able to get the shoes to show up. (didn't mention them) or the poses. But I will get the hang of it.

One last question on this subject.  As I said in my first post, they are two places that Studio points to for content. One is the folder under Public Documents and the other is under my user name
Studio/My Library.    Where is the best place to put them?  From all the videos I watched, it should be under the username one. The only thing that threw me off is that I just downloaded Daz Studio
and the "My Library" was empty. Due to health problems, it has been about five years since I have used Daz Studio and it has changed quite a bit. (for the better) except for installing new third party content.

Anyway, should I use the folder under usename to install 3rd party content?   Thanks for all the help. Getting the French Twist hair to show up was a major victory for me.

Yes, use the "My Library" under your username for anything you install manually.  "My Daz 3D Library" under Public is for things installed with DIM or DazCentral, and "My Daz Connect Library" is for things installed with Connect (from inside Daz Studio).

If the other items have files in Runtime\Support you can import the metadata the same way; if they don't, there are two ways to find them:

    1) in the Content Library pane, they'll be under Daz Studio Formats > My Library

    2) In the options menu choose "Scan Known Directories For Files" and they will be put in Categories under Default > Scan Results

  • Here is how I have my setup for some poses that are not showing up. I want to make sure that it is right.

C:users/username/onedrive/documents/Daz 3D/Studio/My Library/People/Genesis 8/Poses/guy91600/Inside this folder is some .duf files and some .png files

If that is all right then I just need them to show up. I will try what was posted in the above but I can't find what is listed in number one because there is no Daz Studio Formats folder. If
number two doesn't work then I will post a screen shot.

    Thanks.

Your Content Library pane should have these five sections at the top or left:

You'll want to look in Daz Studio Formats > My Library > People > Genesis 8 > Poses > guy91600

  • I didn't see a way to edit my last post. I do not see a Daz Studio Format in the content pane. (see screenshot if I can post it)

I do not see a "Scan Known Directories" in options menu. (see screenshot if I can post it)

  • Again I do not see a way to edit my last post. I was thinking that the screenshot that I posted was the Content Library. I found the content library and was able
I do not know what you call the pane that is in my screenshot. I would think that the Content Library would be where that pane is.  Okay, I have a lot to learn.

    Thanks for the help

That's the Smart Content pane -- if they don't have metadata they won't show there.  You need to look in the Content Library pane.
