basically yes, a few steps involved
need to save each conversion as support asset then with genesis one export a cr2 for XD4 to convert to M4

I cant find a program or plugin that will reverse convert michael 6 to michael 5

as I said a few steps, I use a Sickleyield product to go from G2F to genesis myself.
    the male equivelent http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-male-clone-for-genesis
no real easy out the box way to do it but is doable.

Not to totally discourage you, but unless you are comfortable rigging clothing, you will probably not be able to convert clothing from Genesis to M4. I haven't seen too many successes over the last few years of this being done, but those that have made progress generally had to rig the clothing from scratch or make edits to a converted rig.

Do you have to do the M6 to M5 step in Daz Studio or is there a stand alone program.

I don't know of any outside of DS.

believe it or not, the hardest step in your question is going from M6 to M5.
I have dressed Krystal Starfox who is free and has a free XD4 license in an array of genesis clothing WITH original morphs and skirt bones etc.
you can get her from a link in the freepository and her free XD license and experiment for yourself.
I also have the V4 license and found it works well so far too but mostly use her to go the OTHER way, using other figures clothes autofitted from V4 to Genesis.

    to make solving this easier
Which clothing set do you wish to fit to M4
is there a reason it NEEDS to actually be on M4 or just appear to be?
if not there are many much easier ways to acheive the same effect.

Or Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male - basically, instead of using the actual Michael 4 figure, turn M6 into an M4 clone. Maybe there's a reason you've ruled this out, but if not, you might find it much easier.

Or...load both G2M and M4, use the M4 for G2M product, put the M6 clothing on G2M, set the clothing to fit to/collide with Michael 4, pose the two figures the same, and then make G2M invisible. Then it will (or "might," anyway) look as if M4 is wearing the clothing.

Frankensteining, two figures, hidden heads and bodies, is how I often do this stuff for animation in my prefered programs carrara and iClone.

Good catch. No reason, just keep forgetting it's there [possibly since I don't own it].

Have you done Genesis to V4/M4 at all? If so, I'm just wondering how they turn out with XD. I find I'm not using Genesis as much as I used to and went back to Gen4, but I have a slew of clothing I'd like to not let sit there in a pile of dust.

I've done it with hair, by morphing Genesis into V4 and exporting an OBJ and re-rigging in Poser, but I lose the morphs and can't get an exported CR2's PMD to link correctly to the newly rigged hair (if only Nether's HCS worked with Genesis, I'd be golden).

I like the idea of XD because it retains the morphs and handles.

well I had only tried simple stuff with starfox so chose a challenge for V4,
    elven dress cape and shoes
results passable with smoothing on cape and hood
dress skirt too but sleeves and shoes a disaster
    bones shown
    morphs are there but frozen

Sorry, I know this is an old thread but, by 'licence' do you mean purchase the 'Interactive licence'?

    Thanks

No, they meant the M4 licence for Crossdresser: http://www.evilinnocence.com/shop/michael4-crossdresser-license.html

XD4 itself is a free program but you need to buy licences for the figures you want to convert to.
