Lighting problem

How do I get my lights to work correctly, without creating the blackout shadows. This is with the headlamp and the lantern.

I'm probably bening dense, but what do you mean by blackout shadows? I wouldn't suggest using the headlamp in any event.

Hide the dome in the render settings.

The shadows at the edge are blacking out the globe making it look lumpy. I looked back at my settings and most of the unwanted reflections are coming from the Dome. If I turn off the dome, I get no light. With no dome and a distant light, I get almost no light.

    Pick a different HDRI.

Also, did you make a floor by putting a black square on the ground?

I would rather have no HDRI

The floor and background are a prop that came with the snowglobe.

Then go sun/sky or pull the HDRI.  This isn't so much a lighting issue as a reflection issue.
