Cannot apply V6 displacement map

Hi

Can anyone help? I recently bought "Displacement for V6" from the DAZ shop but can't get it to work.

Var 1 and Var 2 icons show OK under Smart Content and Content Library tabs – so they loaded OK.

I check that Victoria 6 is selected and double-click on one of the displacement icons… Nothing happens.

Under Edit I see: "Undo Preset: Displacement Var 1” – so it looks like I applied the preset.

I try rendering – same result whether preset applied or not.

I’ve tried endless trial and error, and Googling, and reading the pdf Daz User Guide. No success.

I just came over to Daz Studio from Poser, so if anyone can do me the favour of telling me where I’m going wrong I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks !

The displacement will not be visible until you render the scene.

If you are trying to add the displacement to the model and it appears nothing it happening you can verify by this method.

When you have the figure selected in the viewport, switch to the materials selection tool (Tools>Surface Selection[tool] and select a surface on the model, preferably a limb that you know should have a displacement applied to it like the face, then go to the the surface(s) tab and scroll down to the Displacement parameter dial and see if anything changes when you load that displacement by clicking the icon.

If the displacement is not loading you may be applying the wrong icon to load the displacement, or something could be wrong with the set you have and opening a support ticket may be needed.

If all else fails you can manually add a displacement but you would need to supply the values for the intensity and the max/min limits along with the location of the displacement map image.

Many thanks for such a prompt and clear reply. (I only just saw it, as e-mail notification seems not to have worked.) It is starting to look as if a support ticket will be needed.

TBH you will get good advice from forum members, but they need to see screenshots and details of what you are doing to help you work through this.

Thanks, point taken. Commentary on my attachments:

    1. Vendor image – this is the 'aging' effect I hoped to achieve with one-click.
    2. My render of V6 with default skin.
    3. V6 after one-click application of vendor displacement map (no visible change).
    4. Following StratDragon's advice: select V6 face, check vendor map is applied, go to Surfaces tab, change displacement parameters.
    5. As in 4 but with a different setting of Minimum Displacement.

I found that changing Minimum Displacement is the only parameter that brings me anywhere near the vendor image result. BUT it also produces the artefacts around the lips. (I have of course e-mailed the vendor, but without reply.)

I'm new to Daz Studio. I want to construct everyday scenes with real life figures – hence my interest in being able to control the aging of skin. Any further advice gratefully received.

You have to apply any change you make to the face to the lips too. The artefact you see is side of the lips shape because its displacement is different from the face. Put the same setting there too

about the vendor image, don't forget they have experience with light and skin materials, so they choose the best to emphasize their product.

You have to play with some skin parameters (Sub shader can change things a lot with light) and put interesting lights on the character to get the most of the render.

The mouth seems shiny, I'm not that expert of Daz so I don't understand exactly why, but sometimes after applying some skins, teeth reflect too much light, so I tweak reflection parameters (in the surface tab) on the teeth .

Thanks for that – it's very helpful.
