Will memory upgrade help or wait until I can upgrade to new computer?
When my old laptop died I bought a cheap HP 15-db0XXX (on sale) with the specs below. It spits and sputters a good bit even though I have cleaned it, removed a lot of unused programs but it just seems really slow especially when rendering and switching between programs. My question is it worth spending a little cash and upgrade to 8GB memory or should I just "suck it up" until I can afford a laptop with better hardware?

4GB is way too low. By the sound of it, your PC is spending far too much of its time swapping stuff to and from main memory and the hard disk and not enough time actually running programs.
Cheers,
Alex.
8GB will be a big help, 16GB if it can do it would be a huge help. You still have to CPU render though.
I don't know your budget, but asking me I would wait until you could afford another PC or laptop. When I'm right, the AMD A6-9225 RADEON R4 has 2 GB memory and I think, it is a pain to render with it, even if you upbgrade your system memory to 16 GB.
Thank you for all the advice and recommendations.
